چکیده

In the pointfree topological context of locales and frames, real functions on a locale L are represented as localic morphisms S(L)→ L(R) (i.e. frame homomorphisms L(R) → S(L)) where S(L) stands for the frame of all sublocales of L and L(R) denotes the frame of reals. This is reminiscent of dealing with (not necessarily continuous) real functions X → R as with continuous functions D(X)→ R where D(X) is the discrete space on the underlying set of X. But it is deeper: the structure of S(L) is rich enough to provide a nice common framework for the three types of continuity (lower semicontinuity, upper semicontinuity and continuity) as well as general (not necessarily continuous) real functions. The aim of this expository note is to provide a short overview of the theory of pointfree real functions and the strength of its applications.

The Semicontinuous Quasi-uniformity of a Frame, Revisited

In this note we present a new treatment of the pointfree version of the semicontinuous quasi-uniformity based on the new tool of the ring of arbitrary (not necessarily continuous) real-valued functions made available recently by J. Gutiérrez Garćıa, T. Kubiak and J. Picado [Localic real functions: a general setting, Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra 213 (2009) 1064-1074]. The purpose is to sh...

Topological and Logical Explorations of Krull Dimension

Krull dimension measures the depth of the spectrum Spec(R) of a commutative ring R. Since Spec(R) is a spectral space, Krull dimension can be defined for spectral spaces. Utilizing Stone duality, it can also be defined for distributive lattices. For an arbitrary topological space, the notion of Krull dimension is less useful. Isbell [23] remedied this by introducing the concept of graduated dim...

Open sublocales of localic completions

We give a constructive characterization of morphisms between open sublocales of localic completions of locally compact metric (LCM) spaces, in terms of continuous functions. The category of open subspaces of LCM spaces is thereby shown to embed fully faithfully into the category of locales (or formal topologies). 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification 03F60, 18B30, 54E99 (primary)

On the completeness of localic groups

The main purpose of this paper is to show that any localic group is complete in its two-sided uniformity, settling a problem open since work began in this area a decade ago. In addition, a number of other results are established, providing in particular a new functor from topological to localic groups and an alternative characterization of LT -groups.
