Analytical methods for polynomial weighted convolution surfaces with various kernels

چکیده
Convolution surface has the advantage of being crease-free and bulge-free over other kinds of implicit surfaces. Among the various types of skeletal elements, line segments can be considered one of the most fundamental as they can approximate curve skeletons. This paper presents analytical solutions for convolving line segments with varying kernels modulated by polynomial weighted functions. We derive the closed-form formulae for most classical kernel functions, namely Gaussian, inverse linear, inverse squared, Cauchy, and quartic functions, and compare their computational complexity. These analytical solutions can be incorporated into existing implicit surface modeling systems for more convenient modeling of generalized cylindrical shapes. We demonstrate their high potentials for modeling and animating branching and tubular organic objects with some examples. We also propose a new competitive kernel function that has a smoothness control parameter. r 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Numerical resolution of large deflections in cantilever beams by Bernstein spectral method and a convolution quadrature.
The mathematical modeling of the large deflections for the cantilever beams leads to a nonlinear differential equation with the mixed boundary conditions. Different numerical methods have been implemented by various authors for such problems. In this paper, two novel numerical techniques are investigated for the numerical simulation of the problem. The first is based on a spectral method utiliz...
متن کاملConvolution Surfaces for Line Skeletons with Polynomial Weight Distributions
Convolution surfaces generalize point-based implicit surfaces to incorporate higherdimensional skeletal elements, of which line segments can be considered the most fundamental since they can approximate curve skeletons. Existing analytical models for line-segment skeletons assumes uniform weight distributions and thus can only produce constant-radius convolution surfaces. This paper presents an...
متن کاملAn efficient method for cloud detection based on the feature-level fusion of Landsat-8 OLI spectral bands in deep convolutional neural network
Cloud segmentation is a critical pre-processing step for any multi-spectral satellite image application. In particular, disaster-related applications e.g., flood monitoring or rapid damage mapping, which are highly time and data-critical, require methods that produce accurate cloud masks in a short time while being able to adapt to large variations in the target domain (induced by atmospheric c...
متن کاملFast LIC with Piecewise Polynomial Filter Kernels
Line integral convolution (LIC) has become a well-known and popular method for visualizing vector elds. The method works by convolving a random input texture along the integral curves of the vector eld. In order to accelerate image synthesis signiicantly, an eecient algorithm has been proposed that utilizes pixel coherence in eld line direction. This algorithm, called \fast LIC", originally was...
متن کاملOn the accurate numerical evaluation of geodetic convolution integrals
In the numerical evaluation of geodetic convolution integrals, whether by quadrature or discrete/fast Fourier transform (D/FFT) techniques, the integration kernel is sometimes computed at the centre of the discretised grid cells. For singular kernels a common case in physical geodesy this approximation produces significant errors near the computation point, where the kernel changes rapidly acro...
