Heavy Photon Search
نویسنده
چکیده
The Heavy Photon Search Experiment (HPS) is a new experiment at Jefferson Lab designed to look for massive vector gauge bosons (heavy photons) in the mass range 20-1000 MeV/c which couple to electrons with couplings α/α in the range 10 to 10 . The experiment utilizes a compact forward spectrometer employing silicon microstrip detectors for vertexing and tracking and a PbWO4 electromagnetic calorimeter for fast triggering, and is designed to measure the invariant mass and decay vertex location of electro-produced heavy photons. As its first stage, the HPS Collaboration mounted the HPS Test Run Experiment, which ran parasitically in Hall B at JLAB during Spring 2012. The run demonstrated the technical feasibility of the design and confirmed critical background assumptions. On the basis of this successful test run, the experiment has been approved for physics running. The experimental design and results from the Test Run are discussed, along with the collaboration’s plans for stage two, the full HPS experiment.

Searching for a Heavy Photon and Hidden Sectors with the Heavy Photon Search Experiment
In recent years, astrophysical anomalies have led to new theories to extend the Standard Model to include an additional gauge boson called the heavy photon (or A′), which would mediate a new force between dark matter particles and explain these anomalies. In addition to dark matter, it is possible that there exists an entire hidden sector of particles that interact with this heavy photon, which...
متن کاملEffects of particle size and weight percentage of heavy metal elements on photon shielding efficiency of reinforced polymer composites
Background: Polymer composites when reinforced with heavy metals in the form of micro/nano particles are efficient gamma- and X-ray shielding materials providing such advantageous features as cost-effectiveness, light-weight factor, flexibility, non-toxicity, conformability over conventional shields. Materials and Methods: In this paper the influence of weight percentages and particle sizes of ...
متن کاملA force beyond the Standard Model – Status of the quest for hidden photons
In this note we discuss the search for new gauge forces beyond the Standard Model. In particular we give an overview for the simplest case of a new U(1), kinetically mixed with the Standard Model photon (hypercharge boson), a socalled hidden photon (also known as dark photon, heavy photon or A′).

Introduction: Globally, the need for radiotherapy as a part of cancer management increases every year. Thus, the shielding for megavoltage radiotherapy rooms is of great importance. Materials and Methods: In the present study, 14 types of developed high-density concrete with densities ranging from 2.45 to 5.11 were simulated by using Monte Carlo method. The linear attenuation coefficient and t...
متن کاملStudy of Radiation Dose Enhancement to Capillary Endothelial Cells Due to the Presence of Heavy Metal Nanoparticles in Two Cell and Tumor Scales by Monte Carlo Method
Introduction: Recently, the use of various sensitizers has been used to increase photon-induced doses in brachytherapy. One of these cases is the addition of heavy metal nanoparticles such as gold in the target area, which increases the production of ionizing electrons by increasing the possibility of photoelectric effects, and increases the efficacy of the treatment. In this study, the target ...
