Water and Salt Excretion

چکیده
Jrntravenous salt-loading tests were performed in 20 hypertensive and 31 normotensive subjects. During the following 5 half-hour collection periods both water and salt excretion by the hypertensive subjects was higher than by the normotensive ones. The diuretic response was much more prolonged and more pronounced than the saluretic response and appears to be a primary response to the salt load, characteristic of the hypertensive state. The increased salt excretion is in part to be explained as the consequence of the increased water excretion. At moderate flow rates a salt-retaining mechanism could be demonstrated which is that usually follow the salt load.

Chloride Excretion during Glycosuria in Patients
Diabetic patients with acidosis and coma commonly are markedly depleted of extracellular salt (1). This is often due, in part at least, to the persistent vomiting which frequently accompanies diabetic acidosis. It has been suggested, however, that the excessive glycosuria which regularly precedes the development of acidosis might contribute to this salt depletion by favoring an excessive prelim...
متن کاملIncreased salt consumption induces body water conservation and decreases fluid intake.
BACKGROUND The idea that increasing salt intake increases drinking and urine volume is widely accepted. We tested the hypothesis that an increase in salt intake of 6 g/d would change fluid balance in men living under ultra-long-term controlled conditions. METHODS Over the course of 2 separate space flight simulation studies of 105 and 205 days' duration, we exposed 10 healthy men to 3 salt in...
متن کاملEffect of sodium taurolithocholate on bile flow and bile acid exeretion.
Sodium taurolithocholate and sodium taurocholenate were infused intravenously into rats and hamsters. Each bile acid salt was given alone or in combination with varying amounts of a primary bile salt, either sodium taurocholate or sodium taurochenodeoxycholate. Bile flow, total bile acid salt excretion, and the excretion of sodium taurolithocholate were quantitatively determined. In addition, m...
متن کاملSalt and water relations, and nitrogen excretion, in the amphibious african freshwater crab potamonautes warreni in water and in air
Mechanisms of salt and water conservation, and nitrogen excretion, were investigated in the freshwater amphibious crab Potamonautes warreni from the High Veld of South Africa. Adaptations to fresh water were assessed as pre-adaptations to air-breathing, and nitrogen excretion was examined as a potential constraint to terrestrial excursions. P. warreni was able to regulate water and salt loss in...
متن کاملEvaluation of dietary salt levels for swine. II Effect on blood and excretory patterns.
Six experiments utilizing 81 growing crossbred barrows were designed to study the effect of salt (NaCI) supplementation on blood and excretory measurements. The measurements studied were: packed cell volume (PCV), sodium and potassium excretion, and urinary and fecal nitrogen excretion. Conventional cornsoybean meal diets with varying amounts of supplemental salt were fed along with deionized d...
