Scattering of two photons on a quantum emitter in a one-dimensional waveguide: exact dynamics and induced correlations

چکیده

Wedevelop awavefunction approach to describe the scattering of two photons on a quantum emitter embedded in a one-dimensional waveguide. Ourmethod allows us to calculate the exact dynamics of the complete system at all times, as well as the transmission properties of the emitter. We show that the nonlinearity of the emitter with respect to incoming photons depends strongly on the emitter excitation and the spectral shape of the incoming pulses, resulting in transmission of the photonswhich depends crucially on their separation andwidth. In addition, for counter-propagating pulses, we analyze the induced level of quantum correlations in the scattered state, andwe show that the emitter behaves as a nonlinear beam-splitter when the spectral width of the photon pulses is similar to the emitter decay rate.

Photon scattering by a three-level emitter in a one-dimensional waveguide

We discuss the scattering of photons from a three-level emitter in a one-dimensional waveguide, where the transport is governed by the interference of spontaneously emitted and directly transmitted waves. The scattering problem is solved in closed form for different level structures. Several possible applications are discussed: the state of the emitter can be switched deterministically by Raman...

Deterministic photon-emitter coupling in chiral photonic circuits.

Engineering photon emission and scattering is central to modern photonics applications ranging from light harvesting to quantum-information processing. To this end, nanophotonic waveguides are well suited as they confine photons to a one-dimensional geometry and thereby increase the light-matter interaction. In a regular waveguide, a quantum emitter interacts equally with photons in either of t...

Probing the spectral density of the surface electromagnetic fields through scattering of waveguide photons.

The spectral density of the metal-surface electromagnetic fields will be strongly modified in the presence of a closely-spaced quantum emitter. In this work, we propose a feasible way to probe the changes of the spectral density through the scattering of the waveguide photon incident on the quantum emitter. The variances of the lineshape in the transmission spectra indicate the coherent interac...

Heralded quantum repeater based on the scattering of photons off single emitters using parametric down-conversion source

Quantum repeater is the key element in quantum communication and quantum information processing. Here, we investigate the possibility of achieving a heralded quantum repeater based on the scattering of photons off single emitters in one-dimensional waveguides. We design the compact quantum circuits for nonlocal entanglement generation, entanglement swapping, and entanglement purification, and d...

Photon Correlations Generated by Inelastic Scattering in a One-Dimensional Waveguide Coupled to Three-Level Systems

We study photon correlations generated by scattering from three-level systems (3LS) in one dimension. The two systems studied are a 3LS in a semi-infinite waveguide (3LS plus a mirror) and two 3LS in an infinite waveguide (double 3LS). Our two-photon scattering approach naturally connects photon correlation effects with inelastically scattered photons; it corresponds to input-output theory in t...
