Intraoperative high-field MR revamps neurosurgery

چکیده
March 04, 2005 | MRI [1] The introduction of high-field MR systems for intraoperative guidance brings neurointervention to new levels. Although it is pricey and complex compared with previous technology, high-field MR may eventually prove cost-effective by helping neurosurgeons achieve better results, reduce patient complications, and cultivate partnerships with other specialists through better scanner utilization.

A mobile high-field magnetic resonance system for neurosurgery.
OBJECT The authors' goal was to place a mobile, 1.5-tesla magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system into a neurosurgical operating room without adversely affecting established neurosurgical management. The system would help to plan accurate surgical corridors, confirm the accomplishment of operative objectives, and detect acute complications such as hemorrhage or ischemia. METHODS The authors us...
متن کاملIntraoperative magnetic resonance imaging in neurosurgery.
Intraoperatively magnetic resonance (MR)-guided neurosurgical operations have been done since 1996, mostly for brain tumors. Several different concepts for intraoperative MRI procedures using low-, middle-, and high-field MR scanners have been reported from pioneering neurosurgical centers. In this article, we present the different solutions used in these centers from a practical point of view....

OBJECT The aims of this study were to develop a three-dimensional patient-specific finite element (FE) brain model with detailed anatomical structures and appropriate material properties to predict intraoperative brain shift during neurosurgery and to update preoperative magnetic resonance (MR) images using FE modeling for presurgical planning. METHODS A template-based algorithm was developed...
متن کاملPrevalence of Complications in Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging Combined with Neurophysiologic Monitoring.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE High-field intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (ioMRI) is becoming increasingly available in neurosurgery centers, where it has to be combined with intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM). IONM needle electrodes remain on the patient during ioMRI and may cause image distortions and burns. We tested magnetic resonance (MR) -heating experimentally and inve...
متن کاملInteractive multi-scale watershed segmentation of tumors in MR brain images
In neurosurgery, determining the position of a tumor during interventions by navigation based on preoperatively acquired (MRI) data is a common approach. In current systems that allow for navigation on preoperative data, it is assumed that no intraoperative tissue deformation occurs. However, in neurosurgical procedures, intraoperative brain deformations of 1 to 10 mm have been reported [1], ma...
