چکیده

The effect of dehydration on the specific activities and transcript levels of several glycolytic enzymes was determined in two chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) cultivarsPusa362 (drought tolerant) and SBD377 (drought sensitive). Dehydration treatment was imposed on 6 days old chickpea seedlings by removing them from pots and keeping them on table top on 3MM Whatman paper at room temperature for 5 h. The stress imposed was judged by determining relative water content (RWC) and proline content. RWC decreased and proline content accumulated after five hours of dehydration treatment. The decline in RWC was higher in SBD377 than in Pusa362, while varietal differences were absent in proline content. With the exception of NADP-glyceraldehyde-3-phospahte dehydrogense, whose activity as well as transcript level showed marginal decrease in both the varieties, dehydration had little effect on all glycolytic enzymes studied.

Long term transcript accumulation during the development of dehydration adaptation in Cicer arietinum.

Cool season crops face intermittent drought. Exposure to drought and other abiotic stresses is known to increase tolerance of the plants against subsequent exposure to such stresses. Storage of environmental signals is also proposed. Preexposure to a dehydration shock improved adaptive response during subsequent dehydration treatment in a cool season crop chickpea (Cicer arietinum). We have ide...

Proteomics approach to identify dehydration responsive nuclear proteins from chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.).

Dehydration or water-deficit is one of the most important environmental stress factors that greatly influences plant growth and development and limits crop productivity. Plants respond and adapt to such stress by altering their cellular metabolism and activating various defense machineries. Mechanisms that operate signal perception, transduction, and downstream regulatory events provide valuabl...

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Analysis of the CaNAC Family Members in Chickpea during Development, Dehydration and ABA Treatments

The plant-specific NAC transcription factors (TFs) play important roles in regulation of diverse biological processes, including development, growth, cell division and responses to environmental stimuli. In this study, we identified the members of the NAC TF family of chickpea (Cicer arietinum) and assess their expression profiles during plant development and under dehydration and abscisic acid...

Involvement of polyamines in the contrasting sensitivity of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) and soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill.) to water deficit stress

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L. cv. GPF2) and soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill cv. Brag) genotypes were subjected to varying water stress levels of -0.2 to -0.8 MPa to assess their relative sensitivity towards water stress. Soybean seedlings experienced significantly more stress injury (as electrolyte leakage) than chickpea at all stress levels. LD 50 in terms of percent germination, root length,...

HPLC analysis of water-soluble vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6) in in vitro and ex vitro germinated chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

In the present communication, a comparative HPLC analysis of water-soluble vitamins (B-group) was carried out in in vitro and ex vitro germinated chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) seeds. Quantitative analysis of ex vitro and in vitro germinated seedlings showed significant differences in vitamin contents. Maximum amount with a linear increase in B1 (thiamine HCl), B2 (riboflavin), and B3 (nicotinam...
