An Active Contour Model Based on Splines and Separating Forces to Detect the Left Ventricle in Scintigraphic Images

چکیده
In this paper we present a novel method for the segmentation of scintigraphic images in order to detect the two ventricles of the heart. The method is based on the active contour model using a region based approach and parametric representation of the contour. The novel aspect of the method is that we have integrated separating forces between the two ventricles in the active contour model. The method has been applied on several scintigraphic images and compared to “active contour without edges” model. The results are satisfactory.

The stochastic active contour scheme (STACS) is a well-known and frequently-used approach for segmentation of the endocardium boundary in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images. However, it suffers significant difficulties with image inhomogeneity due to using a region-based term based on the global Gaussian probability density functions of the innerouter regions of the active ...
متن کاملA FILTERED B-SPLINE MODEL OF SCANNED DIGITAL IMAGES
We present an approach for modeling and filtering digitally scanned images. The digital contour of an image is segmented to identify the linear segments, the nonlinear segments and critical corners. The nonlinear segments are modeled by B-splines. To remove the contour noise, we propose a weighted least q m s model to account for both the fitness of the splines as well as their approximate cur...
متن کاملLeft Ventricle Volume Measurement on Short Axis MRI Images Using a Combined Region Growing and Superellipse Fitting Method
Segmentation and volume measurement of the cardiac ventricles is an important issue in cardiac disease diagnosis and function assessment. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CMRI) is the current reference standard for the assessment of both left and right ventricular volumes and mass. Several methods have been proposed for segmentation and measurement of cardiac volumes like deformable models, ...
متن کاملA New Algorithm for Skin Lesion Border Detection in Dermoscopy Images
Background: With advances in medical imaging systems, digital dermoscopy has become one of the major imaging modalities in the analysis of skin lesions. Thus, automated segmentation or border detection has a great impact on the subsequent steps of skin cancer computer-aided diagnosis using demoscopy images. Since dermoscopy images suffer from artifacts such as shading and hair, there is a need ...
متن کاملCombining Snakes and Active Shape Models for Segmenting the Human Left Ventricle in Echocardiographic Images
We propose a method for segmenting the human left ventricle (LV) in ultrasonic images, which is based on principles from both Active Shape Models (ASM) and Active Contour Models (ACM). Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is applied to a frequency-based shape representation of the LV thus eliminating the need for the difficult determination of corresponding landmarks. The average ventricular shap...
