چکیده

Biodegradation of 2-methylenebornane (2-MB) by Enterobacter cloaceae, which is one of the dehydration products of 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) led to 2-MIB, 2methylcamphene (2-MC) and an unidentifiable oxidation product, in addition to the previously reported camphor and lactonic compound. On the other hand, 2-MC, which is another dehydration product of 2-MIB was oxidatively degraded to fenchone by the same bacterium.

Biodegradation rates of 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin through sand filters and in bioreactors.

Taste and odour (T&O) causing compounds, in particular, 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin, are a problem for water authorities as they are recalcitrant to conventional water treatment. In this study, biological sand filtration was shown to be an effective process for the complete removal of MIB and geosmin, with removal shown to be predominantly through biodegradation. In addition, MIB and g...

Seasonal occurrence and degradation of 2-methylisoborneol in water supply reservoirs.

Methylisoborneol (MIB) and geosmin are cyanobacterial metabolites that occur at nanograms per liter levels in surface water supplies and are responsible for many taste and odor complaints about the aesthetics of drinking water. This study evaluated three water supply reservoirs with bottom-release (hypolimnion) outlet structures in Arizona. MIB concentrations were always higher than geosmin con...

Study on biodegradation of Mazut by newly isolated strain Enterobacter cloacae BBRC10061: improving and kinetic investigation

Mazut as a source content of various hydrocarbons is hard to be degraded and its cracking could turn mazut into useful materials. Nevertheless degradation of mazut by routine methods is too expensive but application of indigenous microorganisms as biocatalysts could be effective and important to lower the costs and expand its consumption. Mazut biodegradation can be improved using various strat...

Antibacterial Activity of Polyethylenimine/Carrageenan Multilayer against Pathogenic Bacteria

The multilayer of polyethylenimine (PEI) and carrageenan (κ, ι, λ) formed by layer-by-layer assembly was investigated for its antibacterial activity against Enterobacter cloaceae, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis 29505 for potential use as coating on biomaterial surface. All the multilayers exhibited growth inhibition. PEI/Iota carrageenan multilayer was effective in inhibiting t...

Biodegradation of glycerol using bacterial isolates from soil under aerobic conditions.

Glycerol, a non-biodegradable by-product during biodiesel production is a major concern to the emerging biodiesel industry. Many microbes in natural environments have the ability to utilize glycerol as a sole carbon and energy source. The focus of this study was to screen for microorganisms from soil, capable of glycerol utilization and its conversion to value added products such as ethanol and...
