A Lingua Franca For Concurrent Logic Programming
نویسنده
چکیده
Among concurrent logic programming or CLP languages like Concurrent Prolog [16] two of the most prominent are GHC [21] and Parlog [6]. GHC and Parlog have similar execution models but complementary virtues as will be argued. Hence it could be desirable to find some common denominator of both languages, which is sufficiently expressive to be worth programming in its own right, and yet is sufficiently close to both languages to be intertranslatable with them. Implementations of this language would support programming in GHC and Parlog as well as in its own common denominator style. If this lingua franca was simpler to implement than either GHC and Parlog, then the benefits of a more streamlined implementation could be realised as well. This paper describes such a lingua franca.

Principles of the ‘Lingua Franca Approach’ and their implications for pedagogical practice in the Iranian context
AbstractThe last thirty five years have created a challenging situation for Iran and its people: on the one hand, the discriminatory British and American policies towards the country have given rise to considerable bitterness; on the other, we continue to teach both British and American English. If Iranian people wish to play a more active role internationally, it is time to review our English ...
متن کاملThe Effect of CMC in Business Emails in Lingua Franca: Discourse Features and Misunderstandings
The paper argues that everyday exchange of business emails produces a development in the work-group relationship, which, in turn, makes new communication styles possible and acceptable by the users' habit to computer-mediated forms, even in unbalanced professional exchanges. The focus is on the (spoken) discourse features of email messages in a self-compiled corpus of selected computer-mediated...
متن کاملIranian Teacher Trainees’ Attitudes towards English as a Lingua Franca
The present research was an attempt to shed more enlightening light on the current wave of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), which is gradually sweeping the traditional ideologies in the field of ELT. To that end, this study examined the Iranian teacher trainees’ attitude towards ELF. What makes the present research markedly different from the other language attitude studies is in the context o...
متن کاملDefining a Lingua Franca to Open the Black Box of a Naïve Bayes Recommender
Many AI systems have a black box nature that makes it difficult to understand how they make their recommendations. This can be unsettling, as the designer cannot be certain how the system will respond to novelty. To penetrate our Naïve Bayes recommender's black box, we first asked, what do we want to know from our system, and how can it be obtained? The answers led us to recursively define a co...
متن کاملPattern Languages as Languages A Position Paper for the CHI 2000 Workshop : Pattern Languages for Interaction Design
I begin by discussing the use of pattern languages as lingua franca for supporting communication among the diverse parties to the design process. Next, I describe an example of the emergence of a lingua franca during the process of re-designing a small town, and the ways in which it enabled the community to shape its own future. I conclude by suggesting that pattern languages which describe a w...
