چکیده

An adaptive mesh refinement procedure for wrinkling prediction analyses is presented. First the critical values are determined using Hutchinson’s bifurcation functional. A wrinkling risk factor is then defined and used to determined areas of potential wrinkling risk. Finally, a mesh refinement is operated.

On Adaptive Mesh Refinement in Wrinkling Prediction Analysis

* Please send all correspondence to: T. Meinders, University of Twente, Mechanical Engineering Department, Po Box 217, 7500 AE Enschede, The Netherlands. ABSTRACT: Hutchinson approach has been successfully used by a number of researchers in thin sheet metal forming processes for wrinkling prediction. However, Hutchinson approach is limited to regions of the sheet that are free of any contact. T...

New adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation

Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...

Applications of Local Adaptive Mesh Refinement Scheme for Engine Spray Simulations

The accurate prediction of fuel sprays is critical to engine combustion and emissions simulations. A fine computational mesh is often required to better resolve fuel spray dynamics and vaporization. However, computations with a fine mesh require extensive computer time. This study developed a methodology that uses a locally refined mesh in the spray region. Such adaptive mesh refinement will en...

Parallel Adaptive Mesh Refinement Scheme for Turbulent Non-Premixed Combusting Flow Prediction

A parallel adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) algorithm is proposed for predicting turbulent non-premixed combusting flows characteristic of gas turbine engine combustors. The Favre-averaged Navier-Stokes equations governing mixture and species transport for a reactive mixture of thermally perfect gases in two dimensions, the two transport equations of the k-ω turbulence model, and the time-average...
