Model Selection Tests for Conditional Moment Inequality Models

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a Vuong (1989)-type model selection test for conditional moment inequality models. The test uses a new average generalized empirical likelihood (AGEL) criterion function designed to incorporate full restriction of the conditional model. We also introduce a new adjustment to the test statistic making it asymptotically pivotal whether the candidate models are nested or nonnested. The test uses simple standard normal critical value and is shown to be asymptotically similar, to be consistent against all fixed alternatives and to have nontrivial power against n−1/2-local alternatives. Monte Carlo simulations demonstrate that the finite sample performance of the test is in accordance with the theoretical prediction. JEL classification: C12, C52

Model Selection Tests for Conditional Moment Restriction Models
We propose a Vuong (1989)-type model selection test for models defined by conditional moment restrictions. The moment restrictions can be standard equality restrictions that point identify the model parameters, or moment equality or inequality restrictions that partially identify the model parameters. The test uses a new average generalized empirical likelihood criterion function designed to in...
متن کاملAdaptive Inference in Conditional Moment Inequality Models with a Known Contact Point
This paper designs tests for conditional moment inequality models that take advantage of prior knowledge of a value of the conditioning variable that gives the most informative bounds. Selection models provide a prototypical example, but the setting applies to other models as well. The tests use this prior knowledge to gain power while being adaptive to other aspects of the data generating proc...
متن کاملModel selection tests for moment inequality models
We propose Vuong-type tests to select between two moment inequality models based on their Kullback–Leibler distances to the true data distribution. The candidate models can be either non-overlapping or overlapping. For each case, we develop a testing procedure that has correct asymptotic size in a uniform sense despite the potential lack of point identification. We show both procedures are cons...
متن کاملInference for Parameters Defined by Moment Inequalities Using Generalized Moment Selection
The topic of this paper is inference in models in which parameters are defined by moment inequalities and/or equalities. The parameters may or may not be identified. This paper introduces a new class of confidence sets and tests based on generalized moment selection (GMS). GMS procedures are shown to have correct asymptotic size in a uniform sense and are shown not to be asymptotically conserva...
