Electron-phonon cooling in large monolayer graphene devices

چکیده
We present thermal measurements of large-area (over 1000 μm2) monolayer graphene samples at cryogenic temperatures to study the electron-phonon thermal conductivity of graphene. By using two large samples with areas which differ by a factor of 10, we are able to clearly show the area dependence of the electron-phonon cooling. We find that, at temperatures far below the Bloch-Grüneisen temperature TBG, the electron-phonon cooling power is accurately described by the T 4 temperature dependence predicted for clean samples. Using this model, we are able to extract a value for the electron-phonon coupling constant as a function of gate voltage and the graphene electron-lattice deformation potential.

Photocurrent measurements of supercollision cooling in graphene
The cooling of hot electrons in graphene is the critical process underlying the operation of exciting new graphene-based optoelectronic and plasmonic devices, but the nature of this cooling is controversial. We extract the hot-electron cooling rate near the Fermi level by using graphene as a novel photothermal thermometer that measures the electron temperature (T(t)) as it cools dynamically. We...
متن کاملAnomaly of Optical Phonon in Monolayer Graphene
The frequency shift and broadening of long-wavelength optical phonons due to interactions with electrons are calculated in a monolayer graphene as a function of the electron density. The broadening disappears and the frequency shift exhibits a logarithmic singularity when the Fermi energy is half of the energy of the optical phonon. The shift increases in proportion to the Fermi energy for suff...
متن کاملHot electron cooling by acoustic phonons in graphene.
We have investigated the energy loss of hot electrons in metallic graphene by means of GHz noise thermometry at liquid helium temperature. We observe the electronic temperature T ∝ V at low bias in agreement with the heat diffusion to the leads described by the Wiedemann-Franz law. We report on T ∝ √V behavior at high bias, which corresponds to a T(4) dependence of the cooling power. This is th...

متن کاملThe role of vector potential coupling in hot electron cooling power in bilayer graphene at low temperature
We have studied, in bilayer graphene (BLG), the hot electron cooling power FVP (T, ns) due to acoustic phonons via vector potential (VP) coupling. It is calculated as a function of electron concentration ns and temperature T and compared with FDP (T, ns) that due to deformation potential coupling. For the ns around 1x10 12 cm, FVP (T, ns) is much smaller than FDP (T, ns). With increase of ns, F...
