CASE REPORT Origin of celiac disease: How old are predisposing haplotypes?

چکیده
We recently presented the case of a first century AD young woman, found in the archaeological site of Cosa, showing clinical signs of malnutrition, such as short height, osteoporosis, dental enamel hypoplasia and cribra orbitalia, indirect sign of anemia, all strongly suggestive for celiac disease (CD). However, whether these findings were actually associated to CD was not shown based on genetic parameters. To investigate her human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class II polymorphism, we extracted DNA from a bone sample and a tooth and genotyped HLA using three HLA-tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms for DQ8, DQ2.2 and DQ2.5, specifically associated to CD. She displayed HLA DQ 2.5, the haplotype associated to the highest risk of CD. This is the first report showing the presence of a HLA haplotype compatible for CD in archaeological specimens. © 2012 Baishideng. All rights reserved.

متن کاملUndiagnosed celiac disease in a patient with polyarthritis: Case Report
Celiac disease is one of the most common autoimmune diseases with a prevalence rate of 0.5-1% in the total population. Diagnosis has increased in recent years; however, many cases of the disease still seem to be diagnosed late. Although the rheumatic manifestations of celiac disease are not uncommon, they are often overlooked. A 30-year-old female patient referred to the rheumatology clinic of ...
متن کاملType 1 Diabetes Mellitus, Celiac Disease, and Selective IgA Deficiency: a Case Report
Patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus have a high prevalence of coeliac disease, symptoms of which are often mild, atypical, or absent. Untreated coeliac disease is associated with an increased risk of malignancy, particularly of lymphoma. Therefore, we report a 9-year-old girl with Coeliac disease, diabetes type 1 and Selective IgA deficiency. A 9-year-old female patient presented in august 2...
متن کاملPigmented Bowens disease mimicking malignant Melanoma: A case report
Pigmented Bowens disease is an in situ squamous cell carcinoma, which is seldom reported in white patients. Herein we report a 20-year-old woman with type III skin, who had this lesion on the fourth finger of her right hand, similar to superficial malignant melanoma, clinically. Although dermoscopic evaluation could be helpful, correct diagnosis of non-melanotic origin is done by histological e...

Aneurysms of gastric vessels (Dieulafoy`s disease, caliber-persistent artery) are thought to be of malformative rather than degenerative origin. They are usually single, located in the submucosa, usually on the lesser curvature, and characterized by a large tortuous vessel surmounted by a small defect...
