چکیده

The availability of an optical connection is considered to be a critical service differentiator in WDM optical networks. In this regard, the design of a protection scheme that improves the availability of high priority optical connections and makes efficient use of optical resources is a major challenge faced by optical network operators. In a previous study, we proposed the so-called priority-aware shared protection survivability scheme as a potential solution to this design issue. In this paper, we complement our previous study. More specifically, we develop an offline study whose main purpose is to assess the efficiency of the priority-aware shared protection scheme. Through this study, we show that the priority-aware shared protection strategy as opposed to existing protection strategies is able to achieve the best tradeoff between optical resource usage and optical connections’ availability satisfaction. 2009 Elsevier B.V. Enhanced Adaptive SLA-aware Algorithms for Provisioning Shared Mesh Optical Networks

The paper deploys an adaptive provisioning algorithm to the traffic with huge volume of high priority connection requests with long holding time by proposing a novel SLA-aware mechanism over optical shared mesh networks. The contribution presented in this paper follows three main characteristics: i) Proposing a new time-aware traffic engineering path constraint considering holding time of conne...

A novel fault management approach for DWDM optical networks

Connection availability is considered as a critical metric when providing differentiated services in WavelengthDivision Multiplexing mesh networks. Indeed, one of the major concerns of optical network operators is related to improving the availability of services provided to their highest-class clients. Achieving this objective is possible through managing faults using the different classical p...

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

A priority-aware CSMA/CP MAC protocol for the all-optical IP-over-WDM metropolitan area ring network

The paper proposes a priority-aware MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol for a core metropolitan area network in the next generation Internet, which is an OPS (Optical Packet Switch) network that all-optically and directly transfers IP packets over a WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) ring network. It uses the concepts of CSMA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access), CP (Carrier Preemption), and th...
