An Analysis of Video Lecture in MOOC

چکیده
Video is a content delivery form used for delivering lecture content in Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). While institutions plan to launch MOOC on their own platform or adapt an existing one, there is a need to specify the features required for video lecture in MOOC. In this paper, we present a checklist of features for video lecture incorporated in MOOC from the learner‟s perspective. The use case based approach has been followed for identifying the features of video lecture in MOOC. The checklist helps during requirement specification of video in MOOC as the provider select the desired features from the checklist.

Displaying Teacher's Gaze in a MOOC: Effects on Students' Video Navigation Patterns
We present an eye-tracking study where we augment a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) video with the gaze information of the teacher. We tracked the gaze of a teacher while he was recording the content for a MOOC lecture. Our working hypothesis is that displaying the gaze of the teacher will act as cues in crucial moments of dyadic conversation, the teacher-student dyad, such as reference disam...
متن کاملMOOC Video Interaction Patterns: What Do They Tell Us?
For MOOC learners, lecture video viewing is the central learning activity. This paper reports a large-scale analysis of in-video interactions. We categorize the video behaviors into patterns by employing a clustering methodology, based on the available types of interactions, namely, pausing, forward and backward seeking and speed changing. We focus on how learners view MOOC videos with these in...
متن کاملAugmenting Collaborative MOOC Video Viewing with Synchronized Textbook
We designed BOOC, an application that synchronizes textbook content with MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) videos. The application leverages a tablet display split into two views to present lecture videos and textbook content simultaneously. The display of the book serves as peripheral contextual help for video viewing activities. A five-week user study with 6 groups of MOOC students in a blen...
متن کاملHow Do In-video Interactions Reflect Perceived Video Difficulty?
Lecture videos are the major components in MOOCs. It is common for MOOC analytics researchers to model video behaviors in order to identify at-risk students. Much of the work emphasized prediction. However, we have little empirical understanding about these video interactions, especially at the click-level. For example, what kind of video interactions may indicate a student has experienced diff...
متن کاملYour click decides your fate: Inferring Information Processing and Attrition Behavior from MOOC Video Clickstream Interactions
In this work, we explore video lecture interaction in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which is central to student learning experience on these educational platforms. As a research contribution, we operationalize video lecture clickstreams of students into cognitively plausible higher level behaviors, and construct a quantitative information processing index, which can aid instructors to be...
