چکیده

We calculate the time delays of neutrinos emitted in gamma ray bursts due to the effects of neutrino mass and quantum gravity using a time dependent Hubble constant which can significantly change the naive results presented hitherto in the literature for large redshifts, and gives some sensitivity to the details of dark energy. We show that the effects of neutrino mass, quantum gravity and dark energy may be disentangled by using low energy neutrinos to study neutrino mass, high energy neutrinos to study quantum gravity, and large redshifts to study dark energy. From low energy neutrinos one may obtain direct limits on neutrino masses of order 10−3 eV, and distinguish a neutrino mass hierarchy from an inverted mass hierarchy. From ultra-high energy neutrinos the sensitivity to the scale of quantum gravity can be pushed up to EQG ∼ 5×10 30 GeV. By studying neutrinos from GRBs at large redshifts a cosmological constant could be distinguished from quintessence.

TeV Scale Quantum Gravity and Mirror Supernovae as Sources of Gamma Ray Bursts

Mirror matter models have been suggested recently as an explanation of neutrino puzzles and microlensing anomalies. We show that mirror supernovae can be a copious source of energetic gamma rays if one assumes that the quantum gravity scale is in the TeV range. We show that under certain assumptions plausible in the mirror models, the gamma energies could be degraded to the 10 MeV range (and pe...

Measuring Dark Energy with Gamma-Ray Bursts and Other Cosmological Probes

It has been widely shown that the cosmological parameters and dark energy can be constrained by using data from type-Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy, the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) peak from Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), the X-ray gas mass fraction in clusters, and the linear growth rate of perturbations at z = 0.15 as obtained from the 2dF Gal...

Phenomenological and Cosmological Implications of Neutrino Oscillations

I discuss the implications of neutrino oscillations for neutrino mass patterns and mass matrices, and for neutrinoless double beta decay. I then go on to discuss the implications for cosmological relic density and dark matter, the galaxy structure limits on neutrino mass, nucleosynthesis, supernovae, cosmic rays and gamma ray bursts.

Neutrino Tomography of Gamma Ray Bursts and Massive Stellar Collapses

Neutrinos at energies above TeV can serve as probes of the stellar progenitor and jet dynamics of gamma ray bursts arising from stellar core collapses. They can also probe collapses which do not lead to gamma-rays, which may be much more numerous. We calculate detailed neutrino spectra from shock accelerated protons in jets just below the outer stellar envelope, before their emergence. We prese...
