Propagation of Nonlinear Incoherent Pulses in Single-mode Optical Fibers

چکیده
Propagation of incoherent nonlinear picosecond pulses in a single-mode optical fiber is considered within the framework of the nonlinear Schrijdinger equation. Statistical characteristics of a non-soliton wave packet induced by a random input pulse are obtained with the help of the inverse scattering technique. The probability of a soliton creation from the random pulse is found. Mean soliton amplitude and velocity changings caused by small fluctuations of the soliton-like input pulse are calculated. The influence of dissipative losses on the obtained results is discussed.

Wave turbulence in integrable systems: nonlinear propagation of incoherent optical waves in single-mode fibers.
We study theoretically, numerically and experimentally the nonlinear propagation of partially incoherent optical waves in single mode optical fibers. We revisit the traditional treatment of the wave turbulence theory to provide a statistical kinetic description of the integrable scalar NLS equation. In spite of the formal reversibility and of the integrability of the NLS equation, the weakly no...
متن کاملPropagation and amplification of incoherent pulses in dispersive and nonlinear media
We develop a statistical model to study all the relevant phenomena that can give rise to an anomalous intensity saturation in the propagation of incoherent pulses in a laser amplifier. The interplay among diffraction, self-focusing, group-velocity dispersion, gain narrowing, and gain saturation is investigated. Changes in the temporal and spatial characteristics of the pulses are shown. © 1998 ...
متن کاملLimits of coherent supercontinuum generation in normal dispersion fibers
We study the largely unexplored transition between coherent and noise-seeded incoherent continuum generation in all-normal dispersion (ANDi) fibers and show that highly coherent supercontinua with spectral bandwidths of one octave can be generated with long pump pulses of up to 1.5 ps duration, corresponding to soliton orders of up to N 600. In terms of N , this corresponds to an approximately ...
متن کاملSelf-similar propagation and amplification of parabolic pulses in optical fibers.
Ultrashort pulse propagation in high gain optical fiber amplifiers with normal dispersion is studied by self-similarity analysis of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with gain. An exact asymptotic solution is found, corresponding to a linearly chirped parabolic pulse which propagates self-similarly subject to simple scaling rules. The solution has been confirmed by numerical simulations and ex...

The perturbation theory based on the Riemann-Hilbert problem is developed for the modified nonlinear Schrödinger equation which describes the propagation of femtosecond optical pulses in nonlinear single-mode optical fibers. A detailed analysis of the adiabatic approximation to perturbation-induced evolution of the soliton parameters is given. The linear perturbation and the Raman gain are cons...
