چکیده

head and femoral canal have usually been involved in a procedure of total hip replacement (THR). Severe complications resulting from this procedure are infrequent. However, this procedure can cause localized problems such as infection or cement leakage into the femoral vein to inferior vena cava. We report a case of symptomatic foreign body formation in the right cardiac chambers caused by acrylic cement migration following a THR.

Intracardiac Foreign Body (Bone Cement) after Percutaneous Vertebroplasty

Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a relatively easy and minimally invasive procedure used in treating vertebral fractures. However, the procedure has many complications, one of which is bone cement leakage, which happens frequently. Leakage to the paravertebral venous system, in particular, may lead to especially devastating consequences. Here we report a case of a 65-year-old male patient with an...

Late complications of total hip replacement from bone cement within the pelvis. A review of the literature and a case report involving dyspareunia.

It is not uncommon to observe bone cement in the pelvis on radiographs after total hip replacement, a finding which is generally considered to be benign. This paper reviews some catastrophic late complications from intrapelvic methylmethacrylate. We also describe a case of progressive, unbearable dyspareunia beginning three years after total hip replacement. A possible explanation of the pathop...

However time, the longevity of total hip replacement implants may be limited by osteolysis and aseptic loosening regardless of the method of fixation . Osteolysis manifests itself by causing progressive periprosthetic bone resorption secondary to the biolo...

Minimizing Stress Shielding and Cement Damage in Cemented Femoral Component of a Hip Prosthesis through Computational Design Optimization

The average life expectancy of many people undergoing total hip replacement (THR) exceeds twenty-five years and the demand for implants that increase the load-bearing capability of the bone without affecting the short- or long-term stability of the prosthesis is high. Mechanical failure owing to cement damage and stress shielding of the bone are the main factors affecting the long-term survival...
