Product Recommendation Method based on Onomatopoeia Expressing Texture

چکیده
With the widespread use of online shopping in recent years, consumer search requests for products have become more diverse. Previous web search methods have used adjectives as input by consumers. However, given that the number of adjectives that can be used to express textures is limited, it is debatable whether adjectives are capable of richly expressing variations of product textures. In Japanese, tactile experiences are easily and frequently expressed by onomatopoeia, such as “fuwa-fuwa” which indicates a soft and light sensation. Onomatopoeia are useful for understanding not only material textures but also a user’s intuitive, sensitive, and even ambiguous feelings evoked by materials. In this study, we propose a system to recommend products corresponding to product textures associated with Japanese onomatopoeia based on their symbolic sound associations between the onomatopoeia phonemes and the texture sensations. Our system quantitatively estimates the texture sensations of onomatopoeia input by users, and calculates the similarities between the users’ impressions of the onomatopoeia and those of product pictures. Our system also suggests products which best match the entered onomatopoeia. An evaluation of our method revealed that the best performance was achieved when the SIFT features, the colors of product pictures, and text describing product pictures were used; Specifically, precision was 66 for the top 15 search results. Our system is expected to contribute to online shopping activity as an intuitive product recommendation system.

Tactile Experience Is Evoked by Visual Image of Materials: Evidence from Onomatopoeia
Human beings get a lot of information from a picture based on what we see and our background knowledge. However, many computer vision researches are heavily dependent on the use of image features and have paid little attention to background knowledge we use in texture processing. The present study explores the degree to which onomatopoeia evoked by visual images is affected by the multimodal ex...
متن کاملSound Symbolic Relationship between Onomatopoeia and Emotional Evaluations in Taste
Many languages have a word class whose speech sounds are linked to sensory experiences (sound symbolism). Here we investigated sound symbolism in taste. Specifically, we performed psychological experiments to study the relationship between phonemes of Japanese sound symbolic words and emotional evaluations of objects in taste. We propose an interactive technique using onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia are imitative words such as “Zig-zag” and “Tick-tock”. Some Asian languages, especially Japanese and Korean, have many onomatopoeia words, which are frequently used in ordinary conversation, as well as in the written language. Almost all onomatopoeic words represent the texture of materials, the state of things and emotions. W...

In this paper, we propose a system which improves text catchphrases on the web using onomatopoeia and the Japanese Google N-grams. Onomatopoeia is regarded as a fundamental tool in daily communication for people. The proposed system inserts an onomatopoetic word into plain text catchphrases. Being based on a large catchphrase encyclopedia, the proposed system evaluates each catchphrase’s candid...

In this paper, the main objective is ergonomics evaluation of automobile’s dashboard to devise suitable designs based on textures and patterns. Undoubtedly appropriated dashboards' design based on textures might be ended to more driving safety, in which the tactile-real and visualimplied texture of a surface should be considered. In this study, data was gathered by in-depth observa...
