Accretion Disk in Cyg X-1 in the Soft State

چکیده

We analyze the simultaneous ASCA/RXTE observation of Cyg X-1 in the soft state on 1996 May 30. We apply a multi-color disk model with a torque-free boundary condition in the pseudo-Newtonian potential, and point out the main discrepancies between the commonly-used simplified 'diskbb' model and our one. We estimate the black hole mass and the accretion rate, and show that during this observation the disk probably did not reach the last stable orbit and the transition from the hard to the soft state was not yet completed.

Two Different Long-term Behaviors in Black-Hole Candidates: Evidence for Two Accretion Flows?

We discuss the results of long-term hard x-ray monitoring of Galactic blackhole candidates 1E 1740.7–2942, GRS 1758–258, Cyg X–1, GX 339–4, and Cyg X–3 with the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). The objects divide into two classes. In the first class, exemplified by Cyg X–1, luminosity and spectral hardness evolve simultaneously. In the second class, the relation is more complicated: the soft...

Frequency resolved spectroscopy of Cyg X - 1 : fast variability of the reflected emission in the soft state

Using the RXTE/PCA data we study the fast variability of the reflected emission in the soft spectral state of Cyg X-1 by means of Fourier frequency resolved spectroscopy. We find that the rms amplitude of variations of the reflected emission has the same frequency dependence as the primary radiation down to time scales of 30−50 msec. This might indicate that the reflected flux reproduces, with ...

Self-consistent Thermal Accretion Disk Corona Models for Compact Objects Ii. Application to Cygnus X-1

We apply our self-consistent accretion disk corona (ADC) model, with two different geometries, to the broadband X-ray spectrum of the black hole candidate Cygnus X-1. As shown in a companion paper (Dove, Wilms, and Begelman), models where the Comptonizing medium is a slab surrounding the cold accretion disk cannot have a temperature higher than about 120 keV for optical depths greater than 0.2,...

Plasma Ejection from Magnetic Flares and the X-ray Spectrum of Cygnus X-1

The hard X-rays in Cyg X-1 and similar black hole sources are possibly produced in an active corona atop an accretion disk. We suggest that the observed weakness of X-ray reflection from the disk is due to bulk motion of the emitting hot plasma away from the reflector. A mildly relativistic motion causes aberration reducing Xray emission towards the disk. This in turn reduces the reprocessed ra...

Black Hole Spin in X-ray Binaries: Observational Consequences

We discuss the observational consequences of black hole spin in X-ray binaries within the framework of the standard thin accretion disk model. When compared to theoretical flux distribution from the surface of a thin disk surrounding a Kerr black hole, the observed X-ray properties of the Galactic superluminal jet sources, GRO J1655-40 and GRS 1915+105, strongly suggest that each contains a bla...
