Dynamics of a degenerate Fermi gas in a one-dimensional optical lattice coupled to a cavity

چکیده
We systematically study the dynamics of a one-dimensional degenerate Fermi gas in an optical-lattice potential coupled to a single-mode cavity field. We derive an effective model to study the nonperturbative effect caused by the cavity field. Our numerical results show that due to the addition of the optical-lattice potential, the system undergoes second-order transition to a bistable density-wave steady state, where the atoms form a density wave and the cavity field is bistable. In addition, the coherent oscillating behavior of the cavity photon number can be observed. We also present a feasible experimental protocol to realize these phenomena, which may be beneficial for future quantum-information applications.

The fermion sign problem is studied in the path integral formalism. The standard picture of Fermi liquids is first critically analyzed, pointing out some of its rather peculiar properties. The insightful work of Ceperley in constructing fermionic path integrals in terms of constrained world-lines is then reviewed. In this representation, the minus signs associated with Fermi-Dirac statistics a...
متن کاملUnconventional pairings of spin-orbit coupled attractive degenerate Fermi gas in a one-dimensional optical lattice
Understanding novel pairings in attractive degenerate Fermi gases is crucial for exploring rich superfluid physics. In this report, we reveal unconventional pairings induced by spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in a one-dimensional optical lattice, using a state-of-the-art density-matrix renormalization group method. When both bands are partially occupied, we find a strong competition between the inter...
متن کاملFermionic Atoms with Tunable Interactions in a 3d Optical Lattice
The exploration of quantum degenerate gases of fermionic atoms is driven by the ambition to gain deeper insight into long-standing problems of quantum many-body physics. So far, however, the analogy to an electron gas in a solid is limited since there the electrons experience a periodic lattice potential. The lattice structure is in fact a key ingredient for most models describing quantum many-...
متن کاملOptical detection of fractional particle number in an atomic Fermi-Dirac gas.
We study theoretically a Fermi-Dirac atomic gas in a one-dimensional optical lattice coupled to a coherent electromagnetic field with a topologically nontrivial soliton phase profile. We argue that the resulting fractional eigenvalues of the particle number operator can be detected via light scattering. This could be a truly quantum mechanical measurement of particle number fractionalization in...
متن کاملA Fermi-degenerate three-dimensional optical lattice clock.
Strontium optical lattice clocks have the potential to simultaneously interrogate millions of atoms with a high spectroscopic quality factor of 4 × 1017 Previously, atomic interactions have forced a compromise between clock stability, which benefits from a large number of atoms, and accuracy, which suffers from density-dependent frequency shifts. Here we demonstrate a scalable solution that tak...
