چکیده

-Ia3d bicontinuous cubic phases are interpreted as constituted of a fluid film of constant thickness supponed by the gyroid minimal surface. We first compute the gyroid structure factor. Then we decorate the surface by the film. We compute the diffracted intensities and compare to X-ray intensities measured in some lipid

Differential effects of the hydrophobic surfactant proteins on the formation of inverse bicontinuous cubic phases.

Prior studies have shown that the biological mixture of the two hydrophobic surfactant proteins, SP-B and SP-C, produces faster adsorption of the surfactant lipids to an air/water interface, and that they induce 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl phosphatidylethanolamine (POPE) to form inverse bicontinuous cubic phases. Previous studies have shown that SP-B has a much greater effect than SP-C on adsorption. ...

Design of Viologen-Based Liquid Crystals Exhibiting Bicontinuous Cubic Phases and Their Redox-Active Behavior

We have succeeded in developing viologen-based liquid-crystalline materials forming bicontinuous cubic phases. They are composed of amphiphilic zwitterions with a viologen ionic-head-group and sulfonyl-imide-type acids. In the bicontinuous cubic liquid-crystalline assemblies, the ionic-head groups of the amphiphiles align along a gyroid minimal surface, forming a 3D continuous viologen layer. T...

Distinguishing bicontinuous lipid cubic phases from isotropic membrane morphologies using (31)P solid-state NMR spectroscopy.

Nonlamellar lipid membranes are frequently induced by proteins that fuse, bend, and cut membranes. Understanding the mechanism of action of these proteins requires the elucidation of the membrane morphologies that they induce. While hexagonal phases and lamellar phases are readily identified by their characteristic solid-state NMR line shapes, bicontinuous lipid cubic phases are more difficult ...

Connectivity of the Hexagonal, Cubic, and Isotropic Phases of the C12EO6/H2O Lyotropic Mixture Investigated by Tracer Diffusion and X-ray Scattering

The connectivity of the hydrophobic medium in the nonionic binary system C12EO6/H2O is studied by monitoring the diffusion constants of tracer molecules at the transition between the hexagonal mesophase and the fluid isotropic phase. The increase in the transverse diffusion coefficient on approaching the isotropic phase reveals the proliferation of bridge-like defects connecting the surfactant ...

Transformation between inverse bicontinuous cubic phases of a lipid from diamond to primitive.

I studied the transformation between inverse bicontinuous cubic phases (QII) from diamond (QII(D)) to primitive (QII(P)) in a single-crystal region of monoolein. X-ray diffraction data reveal that the crystallographic orientation of QII(P) rotates 55° around the [01̅1] axis from QII(D). This indicates that one direction of the four-branched water channels in the QII(D) phase is preserved in the ...
