Ultra-Low-Energy DSP Processor Design for Many-Core Parallel Applications

Background and Objectives: Digital signal processors are widely used in energy constrained applications in which battery lifetime is a critical concern. Accordingly, designing ultra-low-energy processors is a major concern. In this work and in the first step, we propose a sub-threshold DSP processor. Methods: As our baseline architecture, we use a modified version of an existing ultra-low-power...

Reliability and Performance Evaluation of Fault-aware Routing Methods for Network-on-Chip Architectures (RESEARCH NOTE)

Nowadays, faults and failures are increasing especially in complex systems such as Network-on-Chip (NoC) based Systems-on-a-Chip due to the increasing susceptibility and decreasing feature sizes. On the other hand, fault-tolerant routing algorithms have an evident effect on tolerating permanent faults and improving the reliability of a Network-on-Chip based system. This paper presents reliabili...

Code Generation for Process Network Models onto Parallel Architectures

With multi-core and many-core architectures becoming the current focus of research and development, and as vast varieties of architectures and programming models emerging in research, the design space for applications is becoming enormous. From the number of cores, the memory hierarchy, the interconnect to even the programming model and language used are all design choices that need to be optim...

Parallel Programming Models for Dense Linear Algebra on Heterogeneous Systems

We present a review of the current best practices in parallel programming models for dense linear algebra (DLA) on heterogeneous architectures. We consider multicore CPUs, stand alone manycore coprocessors, GPUs, and combinations of these. Of interest is the evolution of the programming models for DLA libraries – in particular, the evolution from the popular LAPACK and ScaLAPACK libraries to th...

Adaptable Support for Programming Models in Many-core Architectures

Although many-core architectures have emerged, it is unclear how these should be organized and programmed. We propose an architecture where programmable network interfaces ties processors, local memories, caches and the onchip interconnect together and provide basic primitives that allow for multiple simultaneous programming models.
