چکیده
Note. Since this paper was accepted for publication, crystalline porphobilinogen has been prepared from human acute porphyria urine (Westall, R. G. (1952), Nature, Lond., 170, 614). The results described in the present paper have been confirmed in every respect using crystalline material we have prepared by Westall's method, from the urine of rabbits in which porphyria had been induced by the administration of Sedormid (Schmid, R., quoted by Lowry, P. T., Hawkinson, V. & Watson, C. J. (1952), Metaboli8m, 1, 149).

fact that Munro's experiments were carried out under less satisfactory conditions; he himself states that more than half the tadpoles died during the first week, and that from the original 250 eggs only 10 survived to metamorphosis. Our own animals were well fed on a high-protein diet and had a high survival rate. Munro, on the other hand, does not state that his animals were fed but only that ...

MUCH evidence has accumulated to show that ammonia and urea excretion is characteristic of aquatic and amphibian life, and uric acid of terrestrial life [Needham, 1930; Delauney, 1935]. An ontogenetic sequence similar to the above has been shown to occur during the development of the chick [Needham, 1925]. During ontogenesis, at one stage 900 of the N excretion is present as NH3. On the other h...
متن کاملComparative biochemistry of urea synthesis. II. Levels of urea cycle enzymes in metamorphosing Rana catesbeiana tadpoles.
Among the various physiological-biochemical changes associated with the invasion of land from an aquatic environment is that dealing with the nature of the nitrogen excretion product of protein and amino acid catabolism. In general terms (l-4), the excretion of ammonia (ammonotelism), urea (ureotelism), or uric acid (uricotelism) is related to the availability of water to an organism. Ammonia c...

متن کاملEstimation of ammonia excretion rates during a period of red tilapia, Oreochromis sp. Culture, considering biomass increase in a water recirculating system
A completely randomized experimental design was conducted to estimate ammonia excretion rate by red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) during different stages of its growth in recirculating water system units typically designed to meet the experiment purposes. Eight weight groups each containing 75individuals of 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, 120, 180 and 200g average weight were considered as treatments in duplic...
