Importance of Video Technologies in Seizure Identification –

چکیده
Epilepsy is characterized by unprovoked repetitive occurrence of seizures, which are the clinical manifestation of an abnormal cerebral discharge. Seizure semiology is widely variable, in some cases being difficult to identify and diagnose. Especially in nonconvulsive seizures, a high grade of suspicion is necessary and description of episodes by patients and witness may be bizarre and misleading. Video recording of seizures could be widely available through portable cameras and may help physicians recognize seizures. We present a case of a patient with an eight years history of non-convulsive seizures that was only diagnosed with epilepsy after self recording a seizure on his phone camera. Through this case we would like to alert the medical community for the usefulness of these widespread portable video technologies in the diagnosis of seizure disorders.

Seizure reporting technologies for epilepsy treatment: A review of clinical information needs and supporting technologies
This review surveys current seizure detection and classification technologies as they relate to aiding clinical decision-making during epilepsy treatment. Interviews and data collected from neurologists and a literature review highlighted a strong need for better distinguishing between patients exhibiting generalized and partial seizure types as well as achieving more accurate seizure counts. T...
متن کاملBlockade of p75 Neurotrophin Receptor Reverses Irritability and Anxiety-Related Behaviors in a Rat Model of Status Epilepticus
Background: Many recent epidemiological studies have shown that epileptic patients are more likely suffer from depression, anxiety, and irritability. However, the cellular mechanisms of epilepsy-induced psychotic behaviors are not fully elucidated. Neurotrophin receptors have been suggested to be involved in epilepsy and also in psychiatric disorders. Up-regulation of p75NTR expression and acti...

Background and Objectives: Identification of surgical instruments in laparoscopic video images has several biomedical applications. While several methods have been proposed for accurate detection of surgical instruments, the accuracy of these methods is still challenged high complexity of the laparoscopic video images. This paper introduces a Surgical Instrument Detection Framework (SIDF) for a...
متن کاملTemporal Lobe Epilepsy Semiology
Epilepsy represents a multifaceted group of disorders divided into two broad categories, partial and generalized, based on the seizure onset zone. The identification of the neuroanatomic site of seizure onset depends on delineation of seizure semiology by a careful history together with video-EEG, and a variety of neuroimaging technologies such as MRI, fMRI, FDG-PET, MEG, or invasive intracrani...
متن کاملTeaching Video NeuroImages: complex partial seizure evolving into a psychogenic nonepileptic seizure.
An 11-year-old, right-handed girl was admitted for video-EEG monitoring of nocturnal paroxysms consisting of eye opening, groans, right arm shaking, and altered consciousness (see video on the Neurology Web site at www.neurology.org). Ictal video-EEG suggested a left frontal seizure; subsequent behavioral disturbances including dysrhythmic right arm shaking and confusion continued without elect...
