Implementing Sensible Agents in a Distributed Simulation Environment
نویسندگان
چکیده
The practical deployment of distributed agent-based systems mandates that each agent behaves sensibly. This paper focuses on simulating the behaviors of Sensible Agents in dynamic and uncertain environments. Sensible Agents perceive, process, and respond based on an understanding of both local and system goals. In previous research, a Sensible Agent architecture has been developed in which each Sensible Agent is composed of five modules: a Self-Agent Modeler, an External Agent Modeler, an Action Planner, an Autonomy Reasoner, and a Conflict Resolution Advisor. In this paper we present a distributed simulation implementation that exploits the IEEE 1278.1 Distributed Interactive Simulation standard. Furthermore, we employ the Knowledge Query Manipulation Language (KQML) as a semantic basis for communication both between agents (i.e., inter-agent) and with the environment, and the Java Event model for communication between Agent modules (i.e., intra-agent).

Cover Page Simulation Testbed for Sensible Agent-based Systems in Dynamic and Uncertain Environments
Agent-based technologies can be applied to many aspects of manufacturing. The need for responsive, flexible agents is pervasive in manufacturing environments due to the complex, dynamic nature of manufacturing problems. The ability to adapt organizational roles to various problem-solving situations during system operation is a critical issue addressed by research on Sensible Agents that are cap...
متن کاملGroup Membership Services for Dynamically Organized Sensible Agent-Based Systems
To meet the requirements of dynamic and uncertain environments, Sensible Agents are capable of dynamically changing their organizational structures by modifying their roles, which are represented as their autonomy levels (e.g. command-driven, consensus, locally autonomous, and master). Maintaining correct knowledge of the current group membership is essential for Sensible Agents since such info...
متن کاملAn Agent Infrastructure Implementation for Leveraging and Collaboration in Operational and Experimental Environments
Sensible Agents have been engineered to solve distributed problems in complex, uncertain, and dynamic domains. Each Sensible Agent is composed of four modules (the Action Planner, Perspective Modeler, Conflict Resolution Advisor, and Autonomy Reasoner). These modules endow Sensible Agents with the ability to plan, model, resolve individual conflicts, and change agent system organization. Two co...
متن کاملA Distributed MDO Environment Based on Web and Agents
This paper presents some results of an ongoing NRC-NSC joint project on Multidisciplinary Design Optimization. It focuses on the development of a Web/agent based distributed Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) environment called WebBlow which is being implemented using a number of emerging technologies such as the Internet, Web, XML, Java, and intelligent agents. The Web provides the in...
متن کاملSensible Agents: Demonstration of Dynamic Adaptive Autonomy
Multi-agent Systems (MAS) meld the research fields of Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence into a field called Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI). MAS fit nicely into domains that are naturally distributed and require automated reasoning to solve problems. Sensible Agents are one MAS designed for domains with a high level of dynamism and uncertainty. A central problem in MAS...
