چکیده
In this paper, a specific Spatial Modulation of Magne t i za t ion (SPAMM) imaging protocol and associated image analysis methods are proposed. T h e imaging process creates long axis tag p lanes which are coincident with short-axis i m a g e slices a t t h e t i m e of on-set of tags. In addition, o n e se t of short-axis tag planes are created coincident w i t h long-axis image slices a t the t i m e of on-set of tags. O n c e short-axis and long-axis tag data synchronized w i t h o n e another and wi th t h e EKG signal are obtained, t h e three sets of tag p lanes ( two intersecting short-axis image slices and o n e intersecting long-axis i m a g e slices) are continuously reconstructed across several i m a g e slices for all temporal f r a m e s during the heart cycle with B-spline surfaces. Subsequently, a computer algorithm de termines the intersection of these 3 sets of surfaces for a n u m b e r of material po in ts of t h e LV myocardium, allowing for visualization of 3D m o t i o n of these non-invasively placed beads during t h e entire cardiac cycle.

Evaluation of tissue doppler echocardiography and T2* magnetic resonance imaging in iron load of patients with thalassemia major
Background: Iron-mediated cardiomyopathy is the main complication of thalassemia major (TM) patients. Therefore, there is an important clinical need in the early diagnosis and risk stratification of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tissue doppler imaging (TDI) to study cardiac iron overload in patients with TM using T2* magnetic resonance (MR) as the gold-standard...
متن کاملCardiac motion tracking using CINE harmonic phase (HARP) magnetic resonance imaging.
This article introduces a new image processing technique for rapid analysis of tagged cardiac magnetic resonance image sequences. The method uses isolated spectral peaks in SPAMM-tagged magnetic resonance images, which contain information about cardiac motion. The inverse Fourier transform of a spectral peak is a complex image whose calculated angle is called a harmonic phase (HARP) image. It i...
متن کاملMeasurement of 3D Motion of Myocardial Material Points from Explicit B-Surface Reconstruction of Tagged MRI Data
MRI is unique in its ability to non-invasively and selectively alter tissue magnetization, and create tag planes intersecting image slices. The resulting grid of signal voids allows for tracking deformations of tissues in otherwise homogeneous-signal myocardial regions. In this paper, we propose a speciic Spatial Modulation of Magnetization (SPAMM) imaging protocol together with eecient techniq...

Introduction: The MRI based measurement of dynamic 3D deformation of soft tissue in-vivo is relevant to many areas of research such as cardiac biomechanics, the assessment of tumor motion and preoperative planning. Furthermore, when combined with inverse analysis, it enables the non-invasive determination of the mechanical properties of human soft tissue [1]. The current study uses SPAtial Modu...
