Orthogonal and biorthogonal texture-matched wavelet filterbanks for hierarchical texture analysis

چکیده

This paper deals with the application of the wavelet transform to hierarchical texture analysis. The main goal is the design of texture-matched FIR-filterbanks as the dyadic (2-channel) orthogonal and the M-channel biorthogonal wavelet filterbanks. The new approach represents a generalization of the already known purely mathematically-oriented design methods for multirate and wavelet filterbanks. The cascaded application of the filterbanks results in a critically, by the factor M M (with M ≥ 2) downsampled, pyramidal representation of the textured image. The performance of these new filters discriminating textures is compared with the classical wavelet approaches on Brodatz ́s textures.

A general approach to the generation of biorthogonal bases of compactly-supported wavelets

Biorthogonal bases of compactly-supported wavelets are characterized by the FIR perfect-reconstruction filterbanks to which they correspond. In this paper we develop explicit representations of all such filterbanks, allowing us to generate every possible biorthogonal compactly-supported wavelet basis. For these filterbanks, the product H(z) = H(z) e H(z) of the two lowpass filters must have N 2...

An Approach towards Characterization of Ultrasound Renal Stone Images Using Wavelet Transforms

This paper describes an approach for texture characterization based on various wavelet decomposition transforms and its application for the discrimination of visually similar renal stone images. The proposed feature extraction algorithm applies Daubechies, Symlet, Coieflet, orthogonal and reverse biorthogonal wavelet transforms and uses approximation and detail coefficients to characterize rena...

Texture classification and segmentation using wavelet frames

This paper describes a new approach to the characterization of texture properties at multiple scales using the wavelet transform. The analysis uses an overcomplete wavelet decomposition, which yields a description that is translation invariant. It is shown that this representation constitutes a tight frame of l(2) and that it has a fast iterative algorithm. A texture is characterized by a set o...

On the Selection of an Optimal Wavelet Basis for Texture Characterization

Although most of the theoretical and implementation aspects of wavelet based algorithms in texture characterization are well studied and understood, many issues related to the choice of filter bank in texture processing remain unresolved. The impact of the wavelet basis has been mentioned in a few papers, whereas other more detailed investigations have considered only the choice of the wavelet ...

An LCT-wavelet based algorithms for data compression

We present an algorithm that compresses two-dimensional data arrays, which are piece-wise smooth in one direction and have oscillatory events in the other direction. Seismic and hyperspectral data have this mixed structure. The transform part of the compression process is an algorithm that combines wavelet and the local cosine transform (LCT). The quantization and the entropy coding parts in th...
