Modeling skin effect with reduced decoupled R-L circuits
On-chip conductors such as clock and power distribution networks require accurately modeling skin effect. Furthermore, to incorporate skin effect in the existing generic simulation tools such as SPICE, simple frequency independent lumped-element circuit models are needed. A rule-based R-L circuit model is proposed in this paper that predicts the skin effect in the entire frequency range accurat...
متن کاملPhysical Modeling of Spiral Inductors on Silicon
This paper presents a physical model for planar spiral inductors on silicon, which accounts for eddy current effect in the conductor, crossover capacitance between the spiral and center-tap, capacitance between the spiral and substrate, substrate ohmic loss, and substrate capacitance. The model has been confirmed with measured results of inductors having a wide range of layout and process param...
متن کاملAn Efficient Technique for Substrate Coupling Parasitic Extraction with Application to RF/Microwave Spiral Inductors (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper presents an efficient modeling method, based on the microstrip lines theory, for the coupling between a substrate backplane and a device contact. We derive simple closed-form formulas for rapid extraction of substrate parasitics. We use these formulas to model spiral inductors as important substrate-noise sources in mixed-signal systems. The proposed model is verified for the freque...
متن کاملAnalysis of Current Crowding Effects in Multiturn Spiral Inductors
The effective trace resistance of a multiturn spiral inductor operating at high frequencies is known to increase dramatically above its dc value, due to proximity effect or current crowding. This phenomenon, which dominates resistance increases due to skin effect, is difficult to analyze precisely and has generally required electromagnetic simulation for quantitative assessment. Current crowdin...
متن کاملDesign, measurement and modeling process of Si integrated inductors for implanted transmitters
This work shows the process of characterization and modeling of integrated inductors in CMOS silicon technology for biotelemetry applications [1]. Three planar square inductors with different geometrical characteristics were designed, using the 2 μm CMOS technology of AMS. With physical models [2, 3] and the software ASITIC, was possible to define the geometrical characteristics of the inductor...
