چکیده

Previous work by the authors [1, 2] investigated the influence of fibre fracture, due to impact, on tensile stiffness. The work presented in this paper extends this study by exploring the compressive stiffness reduction. The extent of fibre fracture, fibre deformation and matrix crushing all have a significant role in defining this stiffness reduction over the pristine material. This data will be used to develop a nonlinear material model, for the damaged region, which will be introduced into a finite element model of a realistic structure subjected to impact damage and subsequently loaded in compression.

Experimental Study of Masonry Structure Under Impact Loading and Comparing it with Numerical Modeling Results via Finite Element Model Updating

Given the sophisticated nature of the blast phenomenon in relation to structures, it is of significance to accurately investigate the structure behavior under blast loads. Due to its rapid and transient nature, blast loading is one of the most important dynamic loadings on the structures. Since masonry materials are widely used as the partition and bearing walls in the existing and newly-built ...

Nonlinear Finite Element Eccentric Low-Velocity Impact Analysis of Rectangular Laminated Composite Plates Subjected to In-phase/Anti-phase Biaxial Preloads

All impact analyses performed so far for the composite plates, have treated central impacts. Furthermore, investigations on influences of the in-plane biaxial compression, tension, or tension-compression preloads on various responses of the low-velocity impact, especially the indentation, have not been performed so far. In the present research, a finite element formulation is presented for resp...

Folding of Thin-Walled Composite Structures with a Soft Matrix

The paper presents detailed micromechanical finite element simulations of composite materials with soft materials undergoing large macroscopic bending deformation. The simulations allow the study of fibre microbuckling under bending, including the kinematics of the fibres, as well as the strains in the matrix. These simulations lead to a simple analytical model that allows a quite accurate esti...

Elastic Buckling Analysis of Composite Shells with Elliptical Cross-section under Axial Compression

In the present research, the elastic buckling of composite cross-ply elliptical cylindrical shells under axial compression is studied through finite element approach. The formulation is based on shear deformation theory and the serendipity quadrilateral eight-node element is used to study the elastic behavior of elliptical cylindrical shells. The strain-displacement relations are accurately acc...

Quasi-static Axial Compression of thin-walled Circular Composite Tubes

Assessing the behavior of composite structures which are subjected to impact loads is one of the important subjects in the field of mechanical sciences. Using thin-walled tubes which collapsed and absorbed the impact energy is a well-known method to prevent damages to the other parts of the structures. In this paper, deformations, crushing length, peak load, mean force and energy absorption cap...
