On Pyridine Hemochromogen
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. Cyanide hemochromogen probably contains one cyanide group per heme group. 2. The equilibrium between pyridine hemochromogen and its components, pyridine and reduced heme, is complicated to an unknown extent by the precipitation of reduced heme and the aggregation of pyridine hemochromogen. 3. These complications were not taken into account in R. Hill's experiments on pyridine hemochromogen. 4. Even if Hill's experiments are sound they do not prove his conclusion that pyridine hemochromogen contains two pyridine groups per heme group.

A Method for the Quantitative Determination of Hemoglobin and Related Heme Pigments in Feces, Urine, and Blood Plasma*
The purpose of the present study was to make available a simple quantitative procedure for total heme pigments in feces, urine, and blood plasma or serum. It was planned to convert these substances to pyridine ferrohemochromogen, which is known to have stronger absorption than other easily prepared heme compounds, and to measure this absorption under standard conditions with the Evelyn photoele...
متن کاملHeme and Tissue Iron
1. A method is described for estimating the heme in yeast and bees' muscles as pyridine hemochromogen. 2. The difficulties of the method are discussed. 3. The heme as given by the pyridine method is responsible for about 40 per cent of the total iron.

متن کاملPartition chromatography of hemins; separation of the prosthetic groups of cytochromes a and a3.
The earlier work of Keilin and Hartree (1) and the later reports of Ball and coworkers (2) and of Chance (3-5) leave little doubt that cytochromes a and a3 are two different hemoproteins. Comparison of the effect of carbon monoxide, as observed spectroscopically at 605 rnp and in the Soret region, indicates pronounced differences in the extinctions of these components and suggests either differ...
متن کاملSpectroscopy of Catalase
Catalase is resistant to oxidizing agents; e.g., ferricyanide. It is also resistant to reducing agents; e.g., catalytically activated hydrogen, hydrosulfite, ferrotartrate, cysteine. The hemin group of the enzyme will combine with cyanide, sulfides, nitric oxide, fluoride. It will not combine with carbon monoxide. Catalase is therefore a ferric complex. The stability of the ferric iron in the e...
