Quantification of epicardial adipose tissue in morbidly obese patients before and after bariatric surgery

چکیده
Background Epicardial adipose tissue is a highly complex endocrine organ that generates various molecules with profound local and systemic effects that can play a role in obesityrelated heart damage. Bariatric surgery is a last-step therapeutic option to ameliorate obesity. Objective: To compare the amount of epicardial adipose tissue, as well as anatomic and functional features of the heart, and metabolic profile of morbidly obese patients referred for bariatric surgery

De Novo Lipogenesis in Adipose Tissue Is Associated with Course of Morbid Obesity after Bariatric Surgery
OBJECTIVE De novo lipogenesis is involved in fatty acid biosynthesis and could be involved in the regulation of the triglyceride storage capacity of adipose tissue. However, the association between lipogenic and lipolytic genes and the evolution of morbidly obese subjects after bariatric surgery remains unknown. In this prospective study we analyze the association between the improvement in the...
متن کاملImpact of Bariatric Surgery on Carotid Artery Inflammation and the Metabolic Activity in Different Adipose Tissues
In this study, we unravel a molecular imaging marker correlated with the known reduction of cardiovascular events (most commonly related to vulnerable plaques) in morbidly obese patients after bariatric surgery (BaS).We prospectively imaged 10 morbidly obese subjects with F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography before and 1 year after BaS. F-FDG uptake-whic...
متن کاملRANTES release by human adipose tissue in vivo and evidence for depot-specific differences
Obesity is associated with elevated inflammatory signals from various adipose tissue depots. This study aimed to evaluate release of regulated on activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES) by human adipose tissue in vivo and ex vivo, in reference to monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) release. Arteriovenous differences of RANTES, MCP-1, and IL-6 we...
متن کاملEffect of Weight Reduction Following Bariatric Surgery on Serum Visfatin and Adiponectin Levels in Morbidly Obese Subjects
OBJECTIVE Adipokines are signaling and mediator proteins secreted from adipose tissue. A novel adipokine, visfatin, was reported as a protein which was mainly expressed in visceral adipose tissue. Controversial results have been shown regarding the changes of adipokines following weight reduction. So we investigated the effects of weight reduction on serum concentrations of adiponectin and visf...
متن کاملObesity, bariatric surgery and oxidative stress.
Introduction: Obesity refers to the accumulation of fatty tissues and it favors the occurrence of oxidative stress. Alternatives that can contribute to body weight reduction have been investigated in order to reduce the production of reactive oxygen species responsible for tissue damage. The aim of the current study was to assess whether the oxidant and antioxidant markers of obese women before...
