چکیده

Fascinating colors of diamonds are generated by a combination of mechanisms including Fresnel reflection, volume absorption and light dispersion. This paper proposes an approach to unify these mechanisms to synthesize realistic computer images of diamonds. Our work is based on a composite spectral model that accounts separately for smooth components and spikes in spectra. While sufficiently handling smooth spectra involved in Fresnel reflection and volume absorption, the composite model offers a convenient vehicle for representing the monochromatic lights that are crucial in light dispersion. Based on this model, we extend a regular ray tracing by incorporating the elements necessary for rendering Fresnel reflection, volume absorption and light dispersion. The rendered diamond images achieve excellent realism.

Natural-color Yellow Diamonds

widely encountered of the “fancy color” diamonds (figure 1). From 1998 to the present, GIA has issued grading reports on more than 100,000 yellow diamonds, by far the most common of the fancy-color diamonds submitted to our laboratory. In 2003, for example, 58% of the diamonds submitted for GIA Colored Diamond Grading Reports or Colored Diamond Identification and Origin of Color Reports were in...

We study the concept of jointness for guessing principles, such as ♦κ and various Laver diamonds. A family of guessing sequences is joint if the elements of any given sequence of targets may be simultaneously guessed by the members of the family. We show that, while equivalent in the case of ♦κ, joint Laver diamonds are nontrivial new objects. We give equiconsistency results for most of the lar...

Rendering Light Dispersion with a Composite Spectral Model

Light dispersion is an optical phenomenon wherein lights are decomposed into monochromatic components and become colored such as in crystal stones and diamonds. This paper proposes to render light dispersion with a ray tracer based on a composite spectral model. This model decomposes any spectrum into a smooth component and spikes, and offers a convenient vehicle for describing monochromatic li...
