چکیده

We investigate energy amplification in parallel channel flows, where background noise is modeled as stochastic excitation of the linearized Navier–Stokes equations. We show analytically that the energy of three-dimensional streamwise-constant disturbances achieves O(R) amplification. Our basic technical tools are explicit analytical calculations of the traces of solutions of operator Lyapunov equations, which yield the covariance operators of the forced random velocity fields. The dependence of these quantities on both the Reynolds number and the spanwise wave number are explicitly computed. We show how the amplification mechanism is due to a coupling between wall-normal velocity and vorticity disturbances, which in turn is due to nonzero mean shear and disturbance spanwise variation. This mechanism is viewed as a consequence of the non-normality of the dynamical operator, and not necessarily due to the existence of near resonances or modes with algebraic growth. © 2001 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1398044#

Nonmodal amplification of stochastic disturbances in strongly elastic channel flows

Nonmodal amplification of stochastic disturbances in elasticity-dominated channel flows of Oldroyd-B fluids is analyzed in this work. For streamwise-constant flows with high elasticity numbers l and finite Weissenberg numbers We, we show that the linearized dynamics can be decomposed into slow and fast subsystems, and establish analytically that the steady-state variances of velocity and polyme...

Heat Transfer Analysis of Nanofluid Flow with Porous Medium through Jeffery Hamel Diverging/Converging Channel

In this paper, flow and heat transfer of nanofluid through a converging or diverging channel with porous medium is investigated. The fluid constantly flows under the effect of magnetic field through the channel. The diverging/converging fluid motion is modeled using the momentum and energy equations. The influence of some parameters such as opening channel angle, Reynolds number and Darcy’s num...

Energy study at different solvents for potassium Channel Protein by Monte Carlo, Molecular and Langevin Dynamics Simulations

Potassium Channels allow potassium flux and are essential for the generation of electric current acrossexcitable membranes. Potassium Channels are also the targets of various intracellular controlmechanisms; such that the suboptimal regulation of channel function might be related to pathologicalconditions. Realistic studies of ion current in biologic channels present a major challenge for compu...

Remarks on computing the H2 norm of incompressible fluids using descriptor state-space formulation

This paper utilizes descriptor state-space formulation for computation of energy amplification in incompressible channel flows. The dynamics of velocity and pressure fluctuations in these flows are described by a system of partial differential-algebraic equations. Typically, the evolution model is obtained by projecting the velocity fluctuations on a divergence-free subspace which eliminates pr...
