Isolation of faster components in the electroretinogram and visually evoked response in man.

چکیده
The electroretinogram (ERG) response evoked in man by intense illumination pre sents a series of oscillatory potentials super imposed on the b-wave." These oscillatory potentials are of clinical importance, since in the presence of certain diseases they are reduced or disappear prior to some changes of the aand b-waves. Measurement of the amplitude of the os cillatory potential is difficult, since the con figuration of the oscillatory potential is af fected by the inclination of the b-wave. To delineate the oscillatory potential clearly, short amplifier time constant recording (for example, 0.01 second) has been recom mended. In this range of amplifier time con stant, the aand b-waves are still too large to isolate the ocillatory potentials. It was demonstrated that rhythmic wave lets are superimposed on the human visually evoked response (VER) produced by in tense illumination.' These VER wavelets are small and much distorted by slow compo nents, making clear identification difficult. The purpose of the investigation reported here was to isolate the oscillatory potentials and VER wavelets by eliminating the slow components of the ERG and VER with band pass filters.

Visually Evoked Response I N Anesthetized Man with and without Induced Muscle
The use of highly sensitive techniques for recording sensory evoked responses from the human scalp increases the likelihood that the potentials obtained contain electrical components not only from the underlying brain but also from skeletal muscle and other extraneuronal sources. Our concern over the observation of Bickford that the auditory evoked response in man has important skeletal muscle ...
متن کاملComparison of the Wave Amplitude of Visually Evoked Potential in Amblyopic Eyes between Patients with Esotropia and Anisometropia and a Normal Group
Background: We compared the wave amplitude of visually evoked potential (VEP) between patients with esotropic and anisometropic amblyopic eyes and a normal group. Methods: The wave amplitude of VEP was documented in 2 groups of persons with amblyopia (15 with esotropia and 28 with anisometropia) and 1 group of individuals with normal visual acuity (n, 15). The amplitude of P100 was recorded mono...
متن کاملInvestigating the frequency characteristics of the electroretinogram signal in patients with central retinal vein occlusion
Background: Central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) is the second most common retinal vascular disorder after diabetic retinopathy. In this study, we tried to examine the potentials of time-frequency methods for differentiating the eyes with CRVO. Materials and methods: Twenty patients with unilateral CRVO were included in this study. Their contralateral normal eyes were considered as the control...

Background : To determine the effect of binocular summation on the time domain transient VEP wave's components. Methods : The monocular and binocular transient visual evoked potentials of 21 normally vision volunteers 18 to 24 years (mean ± SD, 20.7 ± 1.9) during a reversing checkerboard stimulus with spatiotemporal frequency of 2.18-4 cpd-Hz were recorded. The amplitude and latency of N75,...
متن کاملComparison of Intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide, 5-Fluorouracil, and Their Combination in Treatment of Keloids
BACKGROUND Despite the myriad options available, there is no universally accepted treatment for keloids. This study has compared intralesional triamcinolone acetonide, 5-fluorouracil, and their combination in treatment of keloids. METHODS In this randomized parallel group study, 60 patients were enrolled and randomly allocated to three groups. Patients received intralesional injections of tr...
