Sensor Networks: MAC Protocols
نویسنده
چکیده
Sensor networks are autonomous networks that consist of up to thousands of nodes performing some specific task such as sensing environmental events. The devices are highly constrained: The devices have for example poor computing capabilities and battery resources. The nodes need to communicate with other nodes to convey the sensed information to a device collecting the data. When designing MAC protocols for sensor networks, the constraints of sensor networks need to be taken into account. In this paper, short description of sensor networks is presented followed by descriptions of some MAC protocols.

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey
Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...

متن کاملMAC protocols for wireless sensor networks
The paper presents a brief survey of the Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). It describes pros and cons of some known solutions of the MAC protocols with emphasis on his energy efficiency. The main goal in WSN is prolonging the lifetime of the sensor node, that is usually battery powered and can thus be achieved by designing energy-efficient MAC protocols. ...
متن کاملMAC Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: Tackling the Problem of Unidirectional Links
Experiments have shown that unidirectional links are quite common in wireless sensor networks. Still, many MAC protocols ignore their existence, even though they have a tremendous impact on the performance of both TDMAand contention based protocols. In contention based protocols the medium may be assumed free when it is indeed busy. In TDMA based protocols two neighboring nodes might get assign...
