Modified Sagnac experiment for measuring travel-time difference between counter-propagating light beams in a uniformly moving fiber

چکیده
A fiber optic conveyor has been developed for investigating the travel-time difference between two counter-propagating light beams in uniformly moving fiber. Our finding is that there is a travel-time difference Δt = 2vΔl/c in a fiber segment of length Δl moving with the source and detector at a speed v, whether the segment is moving uniformly or circularly.

A direct kinematical derivation of the relativistic Sagnac effect for light or matter beams
The Sagnac time delay and the corresponding Sagnac phase shift, for relativistic matter and electromagnetic beams counter-propagating in a rotating interferometer, are deduced on the ground of relativistic kinematics. This purely kinematical approach allows to explain the ”universality” of the effect, namely the fact that the Sagnac time difference does not depend on the physical nature of the ...

Experiments were conducted to study light propagation in a light waveguide loop consisting of linearly and circularly moving segments. We found that any segment of the loop contributes to the total phase difference between two counterpropagating light beams in the loop. The contribution is proportional to a product of the moving velocity v and the projection of the segment length Delta(l) on th...
متن کاملFrom the triangle Sagnac experiment to a practical, crucial experiment of the constancy of the speed of light using atomic clocks on moving objects
According to the triangle Sagnac experiment, between point A and point B that are moving in a circular motion, the travel times for light or radio signals from A to B and from B to A are different. The difference ∆t, i.e. the Sagnac effect, equals 2VDL/c, where D is the foot of the altitude to AB, VD is the speed of point D and L is the distance from A to B. The Sagnac effect exists whether the...
متن کاملExperimental feasibility of measuring the gravitational redshift of light using dispersion in optical fibers
This paper describes a new class of experiments that use dispersion in optical fibers to convert the gravitational frequency shift of light into a measurable phase shift or time delay. Two conceptual models are explored. In the first model, long counter-propagating pulses are used in a vertical fiber optic Sagnac interferometer. The second model uses optical solitons in vertically separated fib...

The fact that the round trip time for a light ray moving along a closed path (thanks to suitably placed mirrors) when its source is on a turntable varies with the angular speed ω of the platform may be thought classically as obvious. Furthermore that time, for a given ω, will be different if the beam is co-rotating or counter-rotating: longer in the former case, shorter in the latter. This diff...
