چکیده

In this paper we describe some recent developments in how optics can be used inside Internet routers to scale capacity and reduce power. At Stanford University we are currently designing a 100Tb/s Internet router with an optical switch fabric that guarantees 100% throughput for all traffic.

Quantifying the BGP Routes Diversity Inside a Tier-1 Network

Many large ISP networks today rely on route-reflection [1] to allow their iBGP to scale. Route-reflection was officially introduced to limit the number of iBGP sessions, compared to the n×(n−1) 2 sessions required by an iBGP fullmesh. Besides its impact on the number of iBGP sessions, route-reflection has consequences on the diversity of the routes known to the routers inside an AS. In this pap...

An OTN Pluggable Interface Providing IP over DWDM in Router-Router IP Transport

Requirements are identified for an open-system approach to integrated IP-over-optical networks. Using DWDM XENPAK interfaces with integrated G.709 framing we demonstrate error-free connectivity of core IP routers across a 574km link. © 2007 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.2330) Fiber optics communications, (060.2340) Fiber optics components

High-Performance Multicast Routers using an Optical Switching Core

There is a growing need for routers to support multicast and broadcast applications such as war gaming, teleconferencing and web casting. Using the natural parallelism of optics in a switching core, high-performance routers that are efficient for heavily multicast/broadcast traffic can be implemented. A broadcast and select based optical switching core can handle efficiently multicast/broadcast...

Non-Blocking Routers Design Based on West First Routing Algorithm & MZI Switches for Photonic NoC

For the first time, the 4- and 5-port optical routers are designed by using the West First routing algorithm for use in optical network on chip. The use of the WF algorithm has made the designed routers to provide non-blocking routing in photonic network on chip. These routers not only are based on high speed Mach-Zehnder switches(Which have a higher bandwidth and more thermal tolerance than mi...
