Electrochemical and corrosion behavior of a 304 stainless-steel-based metal alloy wasteform in dilute aqueous environments

چکیده
The electrochemical and corrosion behavior of a stainless-steel-based alloy made as a prototype metallic nuclear wasteform to immobilize Tc, has been studied in a number of reference solutions ranging in pH from 4 to 10. The results showed the 47SS(304)-9Zr–23Mo prototype alloy contained at least five distinct phases with the majority of the Re, used as a Tc surrogate, contained within a Fe2Mo intermetallic phase. Polarization studies showed this alloy exhibited generally passive behavior in a range of dilute aqueous environments. Impedance measurements indicated passivity breakdown events can occur and lead to localized corrosion, especially in slightly alkaline conditions. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Stress Corrosion Cracking Detection of Sensitized Stainless Steel 304 in Chloride Media by Using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS)
Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to detect stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in stainless steel 304 alloy exposed to an aqueous environment at 120 °C. Stainless steel 304 alloy as u-bend was tested in the solution that contains 40 weight percent of magnesium chloride. U-bended samples were prepared according to ASTM G30. EIS measurements were always performed simultaneously o...

In the present study, the corrosion behavior of AISI 347 austenitic stainless steel to ASTM A335 low alloy steel dissimilar joint was investigated. For this purpose, two filler metals, ER309L and ERNiCr-3, were selected to be used during the gas tungsten arc welding process. To investigate the corrosion behavior of the joints after welding, the specimens were tested in 3.5% sodium chloride solu...

One of the problems in the case of stainless steels is their low corrosion resistance against pitting corrosion in chloride containing environments, thereby leading to severe damage to industries. In this research, the pitting corrosion of 304 austenitic stainless steel was studied in 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature (25˚C) by performing electrochemical measurements (containing cyclic pol...

In this study, Inconel 617 alloy was welded to A387-Gr.11 low-alloy steel using ER309L filler metal via gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). First, the corrosion behavior of Inconel 617, A387-Gr, and the weld metal was evaluated by the Tafel polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in acidic (H2SO4), neutral (NaCl), and combined (H2SO4 + NaCl) solution at ambient temperatu...
متن کاملA Continuum Damage Model for the Stress Corrosion Cracking of Austenitic Stainless Steel
In the present work, the mechanical behavior of stress corrosion cracking phenomenon is described. Such phenomenon presents strong complexity due to metallurgic and electrochemical aspects. A methodology for modeling both SSR (Slow Strain Rate) and CL (Constant Load) tests based upon thermodynamics of continuum solids and elastoplastic damage is proposed. In this macroscopic approach, besides t...
