چکیده

In The Continuum, Hermann Weyl gives new bases to the notions of set and function. With them,he constructs mathematics close to physics and solves the continuum problem. Those newNotes on the First Chapter of The Continuum: Intension, Extension, and Arithm... Philosophia Scientiæ, 13-1 | 200915

Semantic Incommensurability and Empirical Comparability: The Case of Lorentz and Einstein

Semantic incommensurability is understood as non-translatability of concepts taken from different theories. My aim is to give a rational reconstruction of the notion of incommensurability underlying the writings of Philosophia Scientiæ, 8 (1), 2004, 73–94.

On independence-friendly fixpoint logics

We introduce a fixpoint extension of Hintikka and Sandu’s IF (independence-friendly) logic. We obtain some results on its complexity and expressive power. We relate it to parity games of imperfect information, and show its application to defining independence-friendly modal mu-calculi. Philosophia Scientiæ, 8 (2), 2004, 125–144.

Equality in the Presence of Apartness: An Application of Structural Proof Analysis to Intuitionistic Axiomatics

The theories of apartness, equality, and n-stable equality are presented through contractionand cut-free sequent calculi. By methods of proof analysis, a purely proof-theoretic characterization of the equality fragment of apartness is obtained. At the Heart of Analysis: Intuitionism and Philosophy

One’s first impression is that Brouwer’s Continuity Theorem of intuitionistic analysis, that every total, real-valued function of a real variable is continuous, stands in straightforward contradiction to a simple theorem of conventional real analysis, that there are discontinuous, real-valued functions. Here we argue that, despite philosophical views to the contrary, first impressions are not m...
