Effect of Varying Source Kurtosis on the Multimodulus Algorithm

چکیده
This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the effect of constellation shaping in the transmitter on multimodulus (MMA) blind equalization in the receiver. Constellation shaping reduces average signal energy by a non-uniform distribution of constellation point utilization. Optimal transmit efficiency is achieved by a Gaussian distribution but many blind equalization algorithms require a non-Gaussian source. We demonstrate, using complex constellations, MMA convergence failure as a Gaussian source kurtosis is approached. Our generalized cost function analysis of the related constant modulus algorithm (CMA) for complex constellations identifies the mechanism of the MMA convergence failure. We introduce a new design procedure for determining the kurtosis-specific MMA moduli and present simulation results that illustrate MMA convergence properties for varying source kurtosis.

Blind Signal Separation Using an Extended Infomax Algorithm
The Infomax algorithm is a popular method in blind source separation problem. In this article an extension of the Infomax algorithm is proposed that is able to separate mixed signals with any sub- or super-Gaussian distributions. This ability is the results of using two different nonlinear functions and new coefficients in the learning rule. In this paper we show how we can use the distribution...

متن کاملBlind Voice Separation Based on Empirical Mode Decomposition and Grey Wolf Optimizer Algorithm
Blind voice separation refers to retrieve a set of independent sources combined by an unknown destructive system. The proposed separation procedure is based on processing of the observed sources without having any information about the combinational model or statistics of the source signals. Also, the number of combined sources is usually predefined and it is difficult to estimate based on the ...

Introduction SPECT projections are contaminated by scatter radiation, resulting in reduced image contrast and quantitative errors. Backscatter constitutes a major part of the scatter contamination in lower energy windows. The current study is an evaluation of the effect of backscatter material on FWHM and image quality investigated by Monte Carlo simulation. Materials and Methods SIMIND program...
متن کاملShort-Time Kurtosis of Speech Signals with Application to Co-channel Speech Separation
Recent work into the separation of mixtures of speech signals has shown some success. One particular method is based on the assumption that scalar mixtures of speech signals have a kurtosis less than that for either source. Under this assumption, a simple gradient search algorithm is employed to maximize kurtosis thereby separating the source speech signals from the mixture. While this assumpti...
