Genotoxic Monitoring and Benzene Exposure Assessment of Gasoline Station Workers in Bangkok
نویسندگان
چکیده
Air pollution caused by traffic transportation, fuel combustions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) composition of gasoline, has progressed to be a serious health problem in Bangkok, Thailand, especially among occupational workers as gasoline station workers (Land transportation department, 2000; Muttamara and Leong, 2000). Exposure to gasoline vapors is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as possibly carcinogenic to humans, mainly on the basis of the established carcinogenicity of some component chemicals such as benzene (IARC, 1989). Benzene is one of primary interest of petroleum constituents which effects to human health. Human exposure to benzene is a global health problem. The major effects of benzene are manifested via chronic (long-term)

Occupational exposure of gasoline station workers to BTEX compounds in Bangkok, Thailand.
BACKGROUND Gasoline station workers are exposed to volatile organic compounds such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX). OBJECTIVE To determine the level of exposure to BTEX compounds among gasoline station workers and measure the roadside concentrations of these compounds in the inner and outer areas of Bangkok, Thailand. METHODS 49 workers at 6 gasoline stations in the inne...

BACKGROUND For its toxicity, benzene exposure is one of the main health concerns for high risk occupations like gasoline station workers. However, there is little knowledge about the effect of benzene metabolites on hematological parameters. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the correlation between the urinary level of trans, trans-muconic acid (t, t-MA), a benzene metabolite, and some hematological para...
متن کامل8-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine as a biomarker of oxidative DNA damage in workers exposed to low-dose benzene
The present study aims to investigate the relation between exposure to low-dose benzene and the occurrence of oxidative DNA damage in gasoline station workers, as well as the possible role of interfering or confounding factors. Urine levels of 8-OHdG were evaluated by a competitive immunoassay in a group of 80 men, employed in gasoline stations located in East Sicily and compared with a control...
