Discrete Portable Measuring Device for Monitoring Noninvasive Intraocular Pressure with a Nano-Structured Sensing Contact Lens Prototype
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new portable measuring device for monitoring intraocular pressure with a non invasive system using a prototype of contact lens has been developed. The contact lens is based on a new organic flexible highly piezo-resisitive film sensor that is glued to the central hole of a lens. The measuring system is wire connected to the contact lens and incorporates user interface methods and a Bluetooth link for bi-directional wireless data transfer. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-2794-9.ch012

Modern Monitoring Intraocular Pressure Sensing Devices Based on Application Specific Integrated Circuits
Glaucoma is a neurodegenerative condition that is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is the main risk factor for the development and progression of the disease. Methods to lower IOP remain the first line treatments for the condition. Current methods of IOP measurement do not permit temporary noninvasive monitoring 24-hour IOP on a periodic...
متن کاملContact lens sensors in ocular diagnostics.
Contact lenses as a minimally invasive platform for diagnostics and drug delivery have emerged in recent years. Contact lens sensors have been developed for analyzing the glucose composition of tears as a surrogate for blood glucose monitoring and for the diagnosis of glaucoma by measuring intraocular pressure. However, the eye offers a wider diagnostic potential as a sensing site and therefore...
متن کاملA New Approach to Glucose Monitoring Using a Non-Invasive Ocular Amperometric Electro-Chemical Glucose Sensor for the Diabetics
A non-invasive method of monitoring blood glucose would present major advantages over existing methods, since the problems listed in this study are specific to invasive testing procedures. Our group will attempt to develop a new technology for the noninvasive monitoring of tear glucose levels, potentially blood glucose monitoring, using a disposable contact lens embedded with glucose sensing me...
متن کاملNoninvasive continuous monitoring of physiological glucose using a monosaccharide-sensing contact lens.
We have tested the feasibility of tear glucose sensing using a daily, disposable contact lens embedded with boronic acid-containing fluorophores as a potential alternative to current invasive glucose-monitoring techniques. Our findings show that our approach may, indeed, be suitable for the continuous monitoring of tear glucose levels in the range 50-500 microM, which track blood glucose levels...
متن کاملA soft contact lens search coil for measuring eye movements.
A five turn coil of magnet wire sandwiched between two soft contact lenses served as a magnetic search coil to measure horizontal and vertical eye movements in humans. The lens was adhered to the eye for 35 min by periodically misting the eye with distilled water; during this time the records of eye position showed that the lens remained firmly attached to the eye. Using this sensor, no topical...
