Development and Application of Multidimensional Multirate Systems to New Video Technologies

The contribution includes the description of nonseparable multidimensional (M-D) multirate systems, the results obtained in their design and application to coding of M-D signals. Nonseparable signals cannot be represented as a factor of 1-D functions. New processing technologies and hardware let implement recent theoretical results and methods. Today there is a lack of the results covering all processing stages in a M-D nonseparable multirate system. Among the advantages of nonseparable systems one could mention: degrees of freedom number is much higher for nonseparable systems, than for separable ones; better energy compaction property; nonseparable systems are often preferred in compression and representation of M-D meshes, their interpolation, in tomography applications.
