چکیده

DYOPTYKA’s innovative solution for the reduction of speckle noise in projection displays, using a phase randomizing deformable mirror, is shown to achieve good performance both within a single 1 μs pulse duration and through sequences of such pulses.

Pump-probe detection of laser-induced microbubble formation in retinal pigment epithelium cells.

Microsecond laser pulses are currently being investigated in a new ophthalmic procedure for treatment of disorders associated with the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). The precise mechanism for microsecond laser-induced RPE damage, however, has not been determined. We have previously shown that short pulse laser irradiation in the nanosecond to picosecond time domain causes transient microbubb...

Focus characterization at an X-ray free-electron laser by coherent scattering and speckle analysis

X-ray focus optimization and characterization based on coherent scattering and quantitative speckle size measurements was demonstrated at the Linac Coherent Light Source. Its performance as a single-pulse free-electron laser beam diagnostic was tested for two typical focusing configurations. The results derived from the speckle size/shape analysis show the effectiveness of this technique in fin...

Electroporation of cell membrane visualized under a pulsed-laser fluorescence microscope.

Controlled permeability can be conferred to cell membranes by exposing cells to a microsecond electric pulse of sufficient intensity (electroporation). By constructing a fluorescence microimaging system with a submicrosecond time resolution we have been able to resolve temporally and spatially the events in a single cell under a microsecond electric pulse. An enormous membrane conductance, corr...

The technique for measuring changes in diffuse surfaces using Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) is well known

The technique for measuring changes in diffuse surfaces using Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) is well known. We present a new electronic speckle pattern interferometer that takes advantage of a single-frame spatial phase-shifting technique to significantly reduce sensitivity to vibration and enable complete data acquisition in a single laser pulse. The interferometer was specif...

Laser speckle imaging based on photothermally driven convection.

Laser speckle imaging (LSI) is an interferometric technique that provides information about the relative speed of moving scatterers in a sample. Photothermal LSI overcomes limitations in depth resolution faced by conventional LSI by incorporating an excitation pulse to target absorption by hemoglobin within the vascular network. Here we present results from experiments designed to determine the...
