Solving Economic Dispatch Problems with Improved Harmony Search

This paper presents the use of the improved harmony search method for solving economic load dispatch problems. The harmony search method mimics a jazz improvisation process by musicians in order to seek a fantastic state of harmony. To assess the searching performance of the proposed method, a six-unit thermal generating system acquired from the standard IEEE 30-bus test system was challenged. Satisfactory results obtained from the proposed method were compared to those obtained by genetic algorithms, evolutionary programming, adaptive tabu search and particle swarm.
