چکیده

Purpose: A three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) was performed to evaluate the influence of bone quality, on the stress/strain in bone surrounding the implant. Materials and methods: Three-dimensional finite element models created to replicate completely osseointegrated endosseous titanium implants, were used for the purpose of stress analysis. Two study groups consisting of a regular platform (RP) group and a narrow platform (NP) group were used with four different bone densities and loaded using the ANSYS workbench software to calculate the Von Mises and principal (maximum tensile and minimum compressive) stress. Results: Maximum equivalent stress/strain in bone increased with a decrease in cancellous bone density. Under oblique load, especially in the low-density bone models, maximum equivalent strain was lower with the RP implant model than with the NP implant model. Discussion: This study confirms the importance of bone quality and its presurgical diagnosis for implant long-term prognosis. Implant and abutment diameter can also influence bone strain, especially in low-density bone. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that bone of higher rather than lower density might ensure a better biomechanical environment for implants. Moreover, regular diameter implants could be a better choice in a jaw with cancellous bone of low density.

تعیین توزیع تنش و کرنش استخوان اطراف ایمپلنت در طرح All-on-4 به روش آنالیز اجزای محدود

Background and Aims: The All-on-4 design with its significant advantages is an appropriate model in reconstruction of edentulous mandible. Evaluation of stress and strain distribution in this model is necessary for better judgment. The purpose of this FEA study was to measure stress and strain distribution on peri-implant bone in All-on-4 design in edentulous mandible. Materials and Methods: Th...

Effect of Abutment Angulation and Material on Stress and Strain Distributions in Premaxillary Bone: A Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis

Background and Aim: Dental implants with angled abutments are often inserted in the anterior maxillary region due to the status of the residual ridge and aesthetic considerations. The purpose of this study was to assess stress and strain distributions in the premaxillary bone around dental implants by means of finite element analysis (FEA). Materials and Methods: Four three-dimensional (3D) fi...

A two-short-implant-supported molar restoration in atrophic posterior maxilla: A finite element analysis

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate the stress distribution of 2-short implants (2SIs) installed in a severely atrophic maxillary molar site. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three different diameters of internal connection implants were modeled: narrow platform (NP), regular platform (RP), and wide platform (WP). The maxillary first molars were restored with one implant or two short implan...

Comparative Evaluation of Microleakage at the Interface of Titanium and Zirconium Abutments Following Oblique Cyclic Loading: An in vitro Study

Abstract Background and aim: Oral microbiota could proliferate the microspace between the implant and abutment, thereby cause inflammation in the peri-implant tissues and adjacent bone. This study aimed to investigate the effect of two types of abutments (zirconia and titanium) on microleakage at implant-abutment interface area under oblique cyclic loading in vitro. Materials and methods:In thi...
