The Photoelectric Determination of Indole in Bacterial Cultures.

چکیده
Many colorimetric tests for indole have been described since Gnezda (1899) first described the oxalic acid test. These have been ably discussed and compared by Fellers and Clough in 1925, together with a very complete bibliography. They concluded, as a result of comparative studies, that the Ehrlich test (1901) was the most accurate, reliable and simple for indole and skatole when unmixed. The Steensma vanillin test (1906) was as delicate, though not as reliable because of interfering substances. In 1920 Zoller extracted the culture distillate with iso-amyl or iso-butyl alcohol and then used the Salkowski test (1919) on this extract. Happold and Hoyle in 1925 discussed solvents useful for extracting indole from media and chose petroleum ether (Ligroin, B.P. 40-60'C.) as the one most desirable. The rosindole body was then extracted from this with Ehrlich's reagent. The method to be presented here is based on the work of Zoller, but dispensing with the distillation and using Ehrlich's reagent instead of the Salkowski test. It is, we believe, more simple than the method of Happold and Hoyle, as there is but one extraction. Difficulties which they anticipate have not been encountered.

Determination of bacterial species isolated from infected lesions of cutaneous Leishmaniasis
Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a common parasitic disease in Isfahan province. A common complication of cutaneous leishmaniasis is bacterial superinfection, which may intensify the disease and produce scarring. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the bacterial species isolated from infected lesions of cutaneous leishmaniasis. Patients and Methods: Two hundred out of ...
متن کاملLxxvi. Indole Formation by Bacterium Coli
KuHNE [1875] recognised indole as one of the products of the bacterial decomposition of proteins. The discovery of tryptophan by Hopkins and Cole [1901] was followed by the proof by these authors that tryptophan was the parent substance of bacterially formed indole [Hopkins and Cole, 1903]. They succeeded in isolating indole and indoleacetic acid from the products of the aerobic growth of bacte...
متن کاملFormation of indigo by recombinant mammalian cytochrome P450.
The development of bicistronic systems for coexpression of recombinant human cytochrome P450 enzymes (P450s) with their redox partner, NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase (NPR), has enabled P450 activity to be reconstituted within bacterial cells. During expression of recombinant P450 2E1 and some other forms, we observed the formation of a blue pigment in bacterial cultures. The pigment was extrac...
متن کاملDetermination of the optimized culture medium and growth conditions for micropropagation of Persian oak (Quercus brantii L.)
The aim of this investigation was micropropagation of Quercus brantii L. via culture of terminal and lateral buds for mass production of this plant. The plant materials were collected from Fars province Iran in spring and summer seasons. After surface sterilization and the removal of phenol materials from the explants, they were transferred into different culture media containing different conc...
