The Gas-producing Species of the Genus Lactobacillus.
نویسنده
چکیده
In a previous study by the author (1936) of over four hundred strains of non-gas-producing lactic acid rods isolated from fermenting substances, the differences in characters observed appeared to be more varietal than specific in nature. It was concluded that twelve previously described and named species were identical in whole or in part with Lactobacillus plantarum (Orla-Jensen) Bergey et al. This work has now been supplemented by a cultural-study of several more or less authentic strains of previously described gas-producing species of lactobacilli and approximately 300 additional strains freshly isolated from a variety of sources. The study has included a determination of morphology, growth in various media, action on sugars, by-products of fermentation, inhibiting effects of various substances such as salt and acid, temperature limits of growth, and thermal death temperatures.

متن کاملAntagonistic Activity of Bacteriocin- Producing Lactobacillus local isolates against some pathogenic bacterial species
Background and Objective: Lactobacilli are known for their probiotic activities and potential to combat pathogens. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial activity of Lactobacillus strains isolated from various sources against pathogenic bacteria, with the objective of identifying potential bacteriocin producers. Methods: A total of 140 samples were collected from different sources. ...
متن کاملApoptotic Induction in Human Colorectal Adenocarcinoma Cell Line and Growth Inhibition of Some Gastrointestinal Pathogenic Species by Lactobacillus Sakei Metabolites
Background and Aim: Lactobacillus is the most important genus of lactic acid bacteria and the use of some species of lactobacillus with the probiotic potential can be effective for inhibition of the growth of some pathogens and control of gastrointestinal diseases and cancers. In this study, the pro-apoptotic and antimicrobial effect of Lactobacillus sakei on human colorectal adenocarcinoma c...
متن کاملThe genetic diversity of lactic acid producing bacteria in the equine gastrointestinal tract.
Seventy-two lactic acid producing bacterial isolates (excluding streptococci) were cultured from the gastrointestinal tract of six horses. Two of the horses were orally dosed with raftilose to induce lactic acidosis and laminitis while the remaining four were maintained on a roughage diet. Near complete 16S rDNA was amplified by PCR from the genomic DNA of each isolate. Following RFLP analysis ...
